Two race track inspired supersports, but which one wears its speed better?

Both the KTM RC390 and the TVS Apache RR 310 are motorcycles built to handle the racetrack and also serve the streets. KTM recently introduced the RC390 in a ‘GP edition’ which flaunts its satellite team’s orange and black colourways. On the other hand, we have the TVS Apache RR 310 BTO (Built To Order), the bikemaker’s sportiest Apache with racing livery and top-shelf hardware. So here’s a quick look at which bike looks the part of a track racer.

Design

KTM’s new design philosophy for the RC range of motorcycles has been inspired by its MotoGP RC16 bike. While the design’s appeal has the room divided, its functionality on the track has unlocked even more potential from the supersport.

The Apache RR 310 BTO, on the other hand, looks identical to the standard RR 310 but gets a sportier livery to set it apart. That said, despite the design being in service for some time now, the Apache is one good looking machine.

This livery finally incorporates those visual elements we felt would give the RC390 a striking appeal. A prime example is the smoked windscreen and blacked-out frame and exhaust.

The Apache goes for a shoutier racing red and white theme with hints of blue to help the bold Apache moniker stand out even more prominently. If both bikes are parked next to each other, despite the bright orange, the RC390 would be considered more subtle.

Compared to the stock paint scheme, the RC’s GP racing sponsor decals like Akrapovic, WP, Motorex and others enhance its racing pedigree.

TVS has ensured the Apache is a moving billboard highlighting its illustrious racing heritage. There is also a generous spread of ‘TVS racing’ and ‘race-spec’ decals all over the motorcycle.

Honestly speaking, both motorcycles look the part of a race bike: loud and ostentatious. Ironically, if you want something subtle, the KTM would be our suggestion. But if a sporty, home-grown track bike is your jam, have a look at the Apache in its BTO form.

With the updated RC390 scooping up more points for now being a well-rounded motorcycle, the champion of sport touring – the Apache RR 310 – is feeling the heat. To see which one is the better all-round supersport, check out this comprehensive comparison review of the two motorcycles.
