Yamaha YZF-R2 FAQs
YZF-R2 Key Highlights
Price: The all-new Yamaha R2 costs Rs 2,30,500 for the standard model, the mid variant is priced at Rs 2,39,500 (same as standard model but gets a quickshifter). On the other hand, and the top variantYZF-R2 M, is priced at Rs 2,53,000. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The bike is available in 5 colour options: Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Gray, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue and Metallic Gray.
Design: Yamaha has launched the all-new YZF-R2 in India. The motorcycle gets styling inspired by the bigger bikes in the YZF-R lineup, giving it a sharp and aggressive look. This one’s designed and developed in India. It also gets a brand-new engine and a host of features, making it a well-rounded supersport.
Features: The Yamaha R2 gets a 5-inch TFT console with connectivity features, including Bluetooth with turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, and a USB Type-C charging port. The top variant gets a Smart Key System for keyless operation. The mid and the top variants include a bi-directional quick shifter, and is offered in Matte White Pearl & Racing Blue colour options. The R2 M gets adjustable levers for added convenience. Furthermore, the bike features adjustable footpegs, which will come in handy on the race-track – where the bike belongs. This should improve rider ergonomics, and cornering clearance. Other features include a ride-by-wire throttle, enabling riding modes and traction control. The R2 gets three riding modes: Street, Sport and Rain, which modulates power delivery based on the selected mode, offering better control across different riding conditions. There’s also an extra Custom mode for a more personalised setup. All said, the bike makes a much better proposition than its sibling, the R15. We haven’t ridden the motorcycle yet, but with more power on tap, the R2 is expected to pack a stronger punch and could well become the next favourite weekend track machine.
Engine: The Yamaha R2 gets a 204cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. It produces 26.5 PS (8.1 PS more than the R15) and 19.1 Nm (4.9 Nm more). The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
Suspension, Brakes & Other Details: The bike is suspended on a KYB inverted fork, and the rear gets a preload-adjustable linked monoshock. It rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends and is wrapped with 100-section and 140-section tyres at the front and back, respectively. Braking duties are taken care of by a 282 mm disc at the front, and the rear gets a 220 mm disc, and the bike gets dual-channel ABS as standard. The M variant has a more premium adjustable KYB unit, and an adjustable monoshock. The Yamaha R2 has a kerb weight of 149 kg (R2) and 150kg (R2M), a seat height of 810 mm and an adequate ground clearance of 170 mm for city riding. The bike gets a steel tube diamond frame, whereas the R15 features a Deltabox frame. It has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres.
Rivals: The all-new Yamaha R2 rivals the KTM RC 200, Bajaj Pulsar RS 200, and the Hero Karizma XMR 210
