The homegrown carmaker could use this opportunity to add more features, and probably visual differences as well

  • Tata Nexon EV to get bigger battery pack and likely more power.
  • Reports suggest the EV will use a 40kWh unit, a size up from the current 30.2kWh pack.
  • New expected features include ventilated front seats, air purifier, and an auto-dimming IRVM.
  • Likely to be sold alongside standard Nexon EV.

Tata Motors is likely to announce the specifications and prices of the long range Nexon EV on April 20. This new variant could be sold alongside the existing variants with the 30.2kWh battery pack to offer customers more options in the same space. Along with that, Tata could use this opportunity to introduce more features.

Reports online suggest that Tata could plonk in a larger 40kWh battery pack. And earlier, a Delhi RTO document had spilled beans that the electric motor could be uprated to develop 136PS. So, it’s safe to speculate that the updated Nexon EV could get these additions. Currently the Nexon EV gets a 129PS electric motor, paired with a 30.2kWh battery pack, good for a 312km ARAI-claimed range.

Tata could also take this opportunity to introduce new features like ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IRVM, an air purifier, cruise control, and electronic stability control. The first three have been recently introduced in the standard Nexon. Other notable features in the Nexon include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, a single-pane sunroof, and dual airbags.

The long range Nexon will command a sizable premium over the Nexon EV, priced from Rs 14.54 lakh (ex-showroom). But still, we expect it to undercut more premium EVs like the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
