Aside from more range, the carmaker could also throw more features into the mix

Tata Motors has been working on a long-range version of the Nexon EV. for some time, and now we’ve managed to spot it in a camouflaged state in Pune. Here’s a rundown on what to expect from the upgraded electric Nexon.

Tweaked Looks

While the model spotted had a heavy disguise, the most noticeable change was that it had different alloy wheels when compared with the regular model. Apart from a few other subtle cosmetic differences, we don’t expect the longer range Nexon EV to look too different to the standard model.

Familiar Cabin

While we haven’t had a look inside, the upgraded Nexon EV’s cabin should look largely unchanged, with the most likely change being a new seat upholstery. Things like the 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, semi-digital instrument cluster, and a single-pane sunroof will likely be present, but Tata could take the opportunity to introduce more goodies (elaborated below).

A Bit More Kit

Some of the additional kit the EV is expected to feature are ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IRVM and an air purifier, like the standard model’s Kaziranga Edition. It could also gain cruise control, and electronic stability control.

Under The Hood

The biggest change will be in this department. A Delhi RTO document hinted at a more powerful 136PS electric motor doing duty in the Nexon EV long-range and reports suggest it will draw juice from a larger 40kWh battery pack onboard. Currently, the standard model utilises a 129PS electric motor, paired to a 30.2kWh battery pack, to offer a 312km ARAI-claimed range. Also, if you look a little closer at the rear wheels, you’ll notice disc brakes, which should provide more stopping power.

Price

Tata Motors is expected to laubch the longer range Nexon EV in May at a premium over the standard model that is priced from Rs 14.54 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite the higher asking price, the new model should still remain a more affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric
