It doesn’t look anything like the sporty E-speed electric scooter concept KTM had shown a few years ago

KTM has been working on an e-scooter for some time now, but this is the first time we’re seeing it move closer to a production ready avatar. Although the premium motorcycle maker is known for making bikes that obsess over thrill, it has made clear in the past that its e-scoot will be an urban dweller with modest performance. Here’s a quick round up of what we could expect.

The biggest uncertainty with this e-scooter today is the moniker under which it will be launched. Will KTM themselves brand this e-scoot or will it feature as a Husqvarna product is yet to be seen. The LED indicators and taillight on the test mule resonate with the Husqvarna aesthetics, but the twin projectors headlights and the monoshock are so KTM like. But in either case, this maxi-style design sure looks appealing to say the least.

While there isn’t a lot of first hand information on what kind of performance this e-scooter will offer, speculations suggest there will be two motor variants - a 4kW and an 8kW. The 4 kW variant could be a slow-speed option with a top speed of 45kmph and the 8kW version is likely to pump out a 100kmph top speed. For reference, the Bajaj Chetak makes roughly 4.08kW of peak power and the Ola S1 Pro makes 8.5kW of peak power.

The test mule is believed to get an underbelly fixed battery setup much like the Chetak and S1 Pro. Hence, the range we could come to expect should be in the same familiar territory as these e-scooters. The 4kW variant could offer around a 100km of range, whereas the 8kW version could stake a 150km plus range claim. These should be sufficient for their intended urban usage.

In terms of hardware, the e-scooter is seen sporting a telescopic front fork and an off-set monoshock mounted on an aluminum swingarm. Braking is tasked to single discs at either end and the ABS rings suggest the likelihood of dual-channel ABS and not combined-braking-system like you’d find on e-scooters like Ather 450X.  In terms of features it’s seen sporting a large TFT console, hence a long list of cool features is a given.

These are just early rounds in the e-scooter’s product development cycle and it has a long way to go before it debuts. While, Bajaj may have an active role in its development and manufacturing, European markets will be the first to get their hands on them when they arrive. As for us, we have our fingers crossed!
