TVS’ flagship supersport comes with goodies unheard of in this segment… and yes, it finally comes with TVS Racing Livery

TVS has done it again! After a comprehensive update last year, the Hosur-based bike maker has again revamped the Apache RR 310 in ways never been attempted by a manufacturer in this segment yet.

What's The Price? Who Are It's Rivals?

The 2021 TVS Apache RR 310 has been priced at Rs 2,59,500, Rs 5,000 more than the outgoing model, which is priced at Rs 2.54 lakh (ex-showroom). It's competitor, the KTM RC 390 has been priced at Rs 2.77 lakh, while the Kawasaki Ninja 300 BS6 which is still fairly expensive at Rs 3.18 lakh.

How Many Variants Are There?

TVS is offering the 2021 Apache RR 310 in only one variant. However, the bike maker is now providing a new Built To Order (BTO) platform. With this, you can not only customise the paint scheme but also opt between two road-legal kits: Dynamic (priced at Rs 12,000) and Race (Rs 5,000), making it the most affordable bike with fully-adjustable suspension in the Indian market. These kits can be retrofitted on existing bikes, however, the prices would be fairly higher. That said, the bookings for the BTO platform are restricted to 150 bookings for the first two months.

What's New?

Thanks to its four decades of racing experience, TVS has been delivering features and performance the way no other manufacturer has been able to provide in this segment. For 2021, the major talking point has to be the two kits on offer. These have been designed so that you can hone your skills on the race track, with equipment that you can tailor to your needs.

The Dynamic Kit comprises fully adjustable suspension at both ends...yes, fully adjustable! The KYB front fork gets a 20-step compression and rebound damping and 15mm of preload adjustment. At the rear, the monoshock comes with a 20-step rebound damping and a 10-step preload adjuster. This allows you to fine-tune the suspension for touring, commuting or track days, based on your preferences. The kit also includes a brass-coated chain claimed to be more durable and rust-resistant.

Interestingly, you won’t have to rely on special tools to adjust your suspension. The bike comes with a new wave key that has an integrated in-hand adjuster for damping adjustment.

If you intend to get faster around the racetrack with your 2021 TVS Apache RR 310, the Race Kit will definitely catch your fancy. The standard bike’s riding posture isn’t as committed as you’d expect from a thoroughbred track machine. TVS’ Race Kit for the bike includes a new set of clip-on handlebars that are 8-degree downwards and moved towards the rider by 5 degrees. Coupled with that are the new, knurled footrests that have been moved up by 30mm! The result is a 4.5-degree increase in lean angles.

Furthermore, TVS has revised the geometry of the muffler, which not only improves the lean angles but is also claimed to produce a raspier sound. The new exhaust comes as a standard fitment.

Last year, TVS introduced the unique feature-packed 5.5-inch TFT display on its flagship supersport. This year, the bike maker has managed to squeeze in even more goodies. Now, you can store and view documents -- like the bike’s RC card and licence -- on the instrument cluster. TVS has even introduced a dynamic engine rev limit indicator, day trip meter, and overspeed indication.

Of course, the customisation program won’t be complete without aesthetic enhancements. With the 2021 TVS Apache RR 310, you can finally get the TVS Racing livery on the bike and opt for different wheel colour options. Heck, you can even get a personalised race number on the visor.

What's Unchanged?

The 2021 TVS Apache RR 310’s shark-inspired design hasn’t been tinkered with. It retains its bi-LED headlight setup and omega-shaped LED tail light. Though the bike is virtually unchanged since its inception, it still looks fresh.

The reverse-inclined 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, too, has been unchanged. It continues to develop 34PS at 9700rpm and 27.3Nm at 7700rpm. It even retains the Glide Through Traffic Plus technology and the riding modes that debuted with the last model. However, TVS claims that the responsiveness has been improved.

The recent ban on importing tyres had us doubting the choice of tyre TVS could opt for. However, the grippy Michelin Road 5 tyres have been retained in the new model, and with more lean angle on offer, this should certainly enhance the riding experience.

What Should Have Been Changed?

Unfortunately, the 2021 TVS Apache RR 310 doesn't get span adjustable lever. The 2021 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V comes equipped with these, and we would have loved to see the flagship motorcycle flaunt this useful equipment as well. Afterall, adjustability has been the highlight of this update, right?

ZigSays

TVS has been pushing the envelope in making performance motorcycling more affordable. We have seen it with the 2021 iteration of the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Apache RTR 160 4V. Even the TVS NTorq 125 Race XP is a testimony to this.

The 2021 TVS Apache RR 310 is no different. It offers more features and equipment unheard of in this segment for a bike in factory guise. The soon-to-be launched 2021 KTM RC 390 will face serious competition from Hosur’s thoroughbred supersport.
