EXCLUSIVE: KTM 490 Duke And Adventure Launch Timeline Revealed; RC450 Showcased At EICMA 2026

KTM has showcased the RC450 at the 2026 EICMA show, giving us a glimpse of its upcoming middleweight sportbike. While the motorcycle is based on the CFMoto platform, it is no secret that the manufacturer is also working on an entirely new 490cc parallel-twin platform, which will underpin its future Duke and Adventure models.

However, while we expected KTM to showcase the new 490cc platform at EICMA this year, we will have to wait for another year. Here’s why: 

KTM RC450: Based On CFMoto Platform

The KTM RC450 is based on the CFMoto platform and will be manufactured in China. The motorcycle will be exported to Europe sometime in early 2027, although KTM is yet to announce its launch timeline or detailed specifications.

The RC450 is a separate project from KTM's upcoming 490cc motorcycles, with the latter expected to feature an entirely different platform and be available in India.

KTM 490 Duke And Adventure Coming In 2027 And 2028

According to KTM officials, the upcoming 490cc parallel-twin platform is currently in its final stages of development and production. Unlike the RC450, the new 490cc motorcycles will be manufactured in India.

It has been confirmed that the first motorcycle to arrive on this platform will be the KTM 490 Duke, which is expected to make its production-spec debut at EICMA 2027. The 490 Adventure is expected to follow, with its unveiling likely at EICMA 2028.

While the 450cc platform could offer KTM valuable learnings, the upcoming 490cc bike will not simply be derivatives of the existing architecture. KTM has confirmed that the two platforms are entirely different, with the 490cc range being developed as a distinct family of motorcycles.

With the RC450 showcased at EICMA 2026, KTM has given us a taste of what's coming next. However, for those waiting for the return of the 490 Duke and Adventure, the wait continues.
