TVS Motor Company recently unveiled a new 125 cc sporty motorcycle called the RTR 125 at EICMA 2026. Interestingly, the brand has not used the Apache name tag for this motorcycle. The bike is expected to go on sale in the European market, where it will rival the KTM 125 Duke. However, an India launch seems unlikely, and there are a few good reasons for this.

The biggest hurdle for the RTR 125’s India launch would be its pricing. Unlike most 125 cc motorcycles sold in India, this one gets proper sportbike hardware and a fairly advanced engine. The KYB suspension, ByBre brakes, trellis frame, liquid-cooled DOHC engine and TFT console would all add to its manufacturing cost. This could push its price considerably higher than what Indian buyers typically expect from a 125 cc motorcycle. At that price point, buyers could simply opt for a higher-capacity motorcycle offering better performance and more value for money. This makes the RTR 125 a difficult product to position in the Indian market.

The TVS RTR 125 looks quite different from anything the brand currently sells in India. It was showcased in a striking lime green and metallic grey dual-tone colour scheme. The design features a compact fuel tank with large extensions, sharp DRLs, a projector LED headlight and a tall transparent windscreen. It also gets a split-seat setup and an aggressive overall stance. Under the skin, the motorcycle gets a sporty trellis frame, a cast aluminium swingarm, KYB inverted fork and a KYB rear monoshock. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with road-focused, radial tyres and gets disc brakes at both ends with ByBre calipers. Switchable dual-channel ABS is also part of the package.

The biggest highlight is its engine. The RTR 125 uses a 125 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a 4-valve head and DOHC setup. It produces an impressive 14.9 PS at 9,000 rpm, 12 Nm at 7,000 rpm, and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. These are serious specifications for a 125 cc motorcycle. Liquid-cooling and DOHC architecture are more commonly associated with performance-oriented motorcycles in the Indian market. The bike also gets a 5-inch TFT console with Google Maps mirroring, smartphone connectivity and multiple ride modes.
The TVS RTR 125 looks like an exciting little sportbike, but its European-focused specifications might not make much sense for the Indian market. TVS would have to price it competitively to make it a viable option here, and that could be difficult without compromising on some of its premium hardware. For now, we think the RTR 125 is better suited to markets where buyers are willing to pay a premium for a well-equipped 125 cc motorcycle.
