Hasn’t been watered-down as it looks every bit off-road ready just like the concept bike

[UPDATE: BMW finally took the wraps off the F 450 GS at EICMA 2025]

BMW F 450 GS First Look

Just one day before EICMA 2025 kicks off, BMW Motorrad’s CEO, Markus Flasch, has shared the first look at the production-ready BMW F 450 GS. It confirms what spy shots and leaks have been hinting at for months. The final, road and trail ready F 450 GS looks every bit the part of a true GS.

The Baby GS

The teased BMW F 450 GS immediately grabs attention with its sharp face – a striking LED DRL setup that lights up all four corners in a cross pattern, echoing the X-shaped signature of the flagship BMW R 1300 GS. That family resemblance alone will make enthusiasts grin, but there’s a lot more to unpack. The bike sits tall on cross-spoke wheels, the front likely a 19-inch unit, wrapped in tubeless knobby tyres.

The Wait Is Almost Over

The 450 GS has been one of the most anticipated bikes in the beginner adventure space, and for good reason. Spy shots of the BMW F 450 GS over the past year revealed plenty about this new baby GS. It’s built around a brand-new, 450cc parallel-twin engine developed jointly by BMW Motorrad and TVS, with production set to take place in India at Hosur. Power is expected to be around 48PS, and it could weigh about 190kg – both very healthy numbers.

Better Than Its Predecessor?

In essence, the 450 fills the gap left by the G 310 GS, but with far more muscle, refinement, and capability. With the 310 gone, this will be the ‘entry-level’ GS,  but still a serious adventure machine aimed at riders who want to go everywhere without lugging around a 250-kilo monster. Think of it as a bridge between the lightweight single-cylinder ADVs and big ones like the BMW F 900 GS or R 1300 GS. For riders in India, this could be the sweet spot: a twin-cylinder GS with global appeal and local production, likely priced around the Rs 4.5 lakh to 5 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

Can’t Wait For Tomorrow

Of course, there are still a few unknown variables. BMW hasn’t revealed details about seat height, suspension travel, or rider-assist electronics just yet. It remains to be seen whether the F 450 GS will get adjustable suspension, multiple ride modes, and an off-road ABS setup like its bigger siblings. But given BMW’s track record, even the base trim should come loaded with a TFT display, traction control, and switchable electronics. There’s also speculation that BMW might offer spoked and alloy wheel variants, just like the bigger GS models. The bigger news is that it’ll reportedly be getting a semi-auto ‘box version too!

Adding Fuel To The Fire

The 400-500cc adventure bike market is heating up fast, with rivals like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, KTM 390 Adventure, Honda NX500, CFMoto 450 MT, Benelli TRK 502, Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr all fighting for attention. Also around the corner at EICMA 2025 are the Aprilia Tuareg 457 and Hero XPulse 421. The singles among these will have the cost advantage whereas the twins will be more refined, and might be a bit peppier. BMW seems ready to set the benchmark with this one, but even from this sneak peek, one thing’s clear – the baby GS isn’t really a ‘baby’ in any sense, and that can only be a good thing in our books!
