BMW F 450 GS India Launch Date Confirmed

The wait is finally coming to an end! BMW Motorrad has officially announced that the much-awaited BMW F 450 GS will be launched in India on April 23. Positioned as the most accessible GS yet, this middleweight ADV promises to bring the big-bike GS experience to a wider audience.

Price, Colours & Variants

Let’s get straight to the point. The baby GS will be expensive and is expected to be priced from around Rs 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant. It will be offered in four variants: Basic, Exclusive, Sport and GS Trophy.

In terms of colours, BMW will offer Cosmic Black (Basic and Exclusive), Racing Red (Sport), and Racing Blue Metallic (GS Trophy). If you ask us, the GS Trophy trim in Racing Blue Metallic looks the most striking and closest to the iconic GS identity.

Engine, Performance & Underpinnings

Powering the BMW bike is a brand-new 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 47.6PS at 8,750rpm and 43Nm at 6,750rpm. It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox, and a bidirectional quickshifter is standard on all variants except the Basic. The top-spec GS Trophy variant also gets the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), which helps prevent stalling at low speeds by automatically managing clutch engagement — a handy feature for Indian traffic conditions and while going offroad.

The F 450 GS gets a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel combination wrapped in tubeless knobby tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 310mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS.

Suspension duties are handled by KYB units, with a fully adjustable fork and monoshock offered on the Sport and GS Trophy variants. The bike weighs 178kg (kerb), which is quite low as compared to its rivals , and the seat height stands at 845mm as standard, with options to lower it to 830mm or raise it to 865mm via accessories.

Features & Equipment

BMW has left no stone unturned as the bike comes with a 6.5-inch TFT console with smartphone connectivity, offering navigation, call/SMS alerts and music controls. It also gets multiple ride modes (Rain, Road and Enduro), traction control, cornering ABS, and engine braking control.

The Exclusive variant adds off-road-focused hardware and an Enduro Pro mode (with switchable rear ABS), while the Sport variant further ups the ante with adjustable suspension. The GS Trophy variant, meanwhile, gets additional protection bits, a rally-style windscreen, and the ERC system.

The BMW F 450 GS was supposed to launch in India a while back, but hey, better late than never. Now that it’s finally on track, things are about to get interesting. Once launched, it will go up against the Honda NX500, Benelli TRK 502, and even single-cylinder alternatives like the KTM 390 Adventure and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

If BMW nails the pricing, this could very well be the sweet spot ADV that enthusiasts have been waiting for.
