Royal Enfield Scram 440 has been launched in India and has two variants: Trail and Force. The Trail variant is priced at Rs 2,08,000 while the Force variant is priced at Rs 2,15,000 (both prices ex-showroom, Chennai). Let’s have a detailed look as to how it compares against the Triumph Scrambler 400 X with the help of images.
The Royal Enfield Scram 440 gets a similar design language as the Scram 411, the motorcycle it replaces. The lower Trail variant gets spoke wheels while the Force variant comes with alloys at both ends. Royal Enfield has also provided the Scram 440 with 5 fresh new paint schemes which will make the motorcycle stand out: Trail Blue, Trail Green, Force Blue, Force Grey and Force Teal.

The Triumph Scrambler 400X gets a modern-looking design compared to the Scram 440. The gold-coloured fork, quilted split-seat and the dual-barrel exhaust gives it a very rugged stance which is very appealing. The Scrambler 400X comes in four colour schemes: Pearl Metallic White/Phantom Black, Phantom Black/Silver Ice, Matt Khaki Green/Fusion White and Volcanic Red/Phantom Black.

The Royal Enfield Scram 440 is powered by a 443cc single-cylinder air and oil-cooled engine producing 25.4PS at 6,250rpm and 34Nm at 4,000rpm. It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. It gets a conventional telescopic fork and a monoshock while braking is handled by discs at both ends. The bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rearwheels; depending on the variant, you can either get spoke or alloy wheels. It weighs in at 196kg kerb.

The Triumph Scrambler 400X gets a 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, generating 40PS at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm, which is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. The Triumph gets an inverted telescopic fork and a monoshock. The braking is managed by discs at both ends mounted on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels. The Scrambler 400X is considerably lighter and weighs 185kg kerb.

A more powerful engine coupled with a lighter kerb weight makes the Triumph Scrambler 400X an easier motorcycle to handle.
The Scram 440 gets a semi-digital instrument cluster which we have previously seen on the Hunter 350. The bike gets a new LED headlight and dual-channel ABS as standard to improve the safety quotient.

The Triumph Scrambler 400X too gets a semi-digital instrument cluster. It also has additional features over the Scram 440 such as switchable traction control and switchable dual-channel ABS, with an off-road mode. It also gets all-LED lighting which adds a modern touch.

At Rs 2,15,000 (ex-showroom, Chennai), the Royal Enfield Scram 440 is the more affordable option, with the Scrambler 400X being priced at Rs 2,64,496 (ex-showroom, Delhi). You’d save almost Rs 50,000 with the Scram 440. However, for that extra money on the Scrambler 400X, you get more power, a lighter weight, more features, and a better fit-finish quality.
