KTM recently launched the 160 Duke in India, and it is based on the same platform as the 200 Duke. The most affordable KTM motorcycle in India now goes against the segment-leader, the Yamaha MT-15 V2.0. We compare the specs to see how they stack against each other.

It’s evident that KTM has gone the “ain’t no replacement for displacement” route with the KTM 160 Duke, ensuring it one-ups the MT in terms of outright power and torque figures. The Duke also reaches its peak power slightly earlier in the rev range as compared to the Yamaha. However, Yamaha’s trump card is the Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology that ensures a good balance of low-end grunt and top-end drive.

While the suspension and wheels are similar on both bikes, the larger discs on the KTM should ensure better stopping power, at least on paper. Although both motorcycles have dual-channel ABS, you can switch off the rear ABS to perform controlled slides only on the Duke.

Even though the Yamaha MT-15 V2.0 is slightly lighter, it should make that much of an impact in the real-world. That said, the KTM seems to be better for bad roads thanks to its slightly greater ground clearance. You’ll just have to be wary of the slightly taller seat.

While both bikes are pretty feature-packed, and even though the 160 Duke’s LCD console may not look as premium as the MT-15’s TFT screen, it is still packed with usable features.

Yamaha offers the MT-15 V2 in three variants with different colours at different price points. The base and MotoGP variants come with an LCD console, whereas the TFT cluster with connectivity is reserved for the top variant. Also, the base variant comes with bulb indicators, whereas the MotoGP edition and top variants get LEDs. By offering different variants at different price points, Yamaha aims to make the bike affordable for riders with different budgets. On the other hand, the 160 Duke comes in one fully-loaded variant.
If you’re looking for a peppy naked with Japanese engineering, then the MT-15 makes sense. Those who like outright performance and want something that looks fresh can go for the Duke 160.
