KTM 160 Duke Officially Teased; India Launch In August 2025

After facing rough seas, it looks like KTM is back on its feet and is all set to launch its first India-only model, the 160 Duke. The manufacturer has officially teased the bike on its social media handles, and here’s all you need to know about it: 

The 125 Duke Successor

The KTM 125 Duke was launched in India back in 2018, and it was the brand’s highest-selling model for a brief period. While it had many upsides, such as a rev-happy engine, agile handling characteristics, and top-notch equipment for its class, its biggest downside, the exorbitant price, is probably what killed it. You see, Indians often equate displacement with price, so to a lot of us, a costly motorcycle that at the end of the day is still a 125cc didn’t really make sense. 

Meanwhile, the Yamaha MT-15, was not only marginally more affordable, but was also much more powerful, more feature-packed, and not surprisingly, grabbed a larger share of the sales pie. KTM has realised that it’s been playing the wrong displacement game all this while. This along with the financial struggles meant the brand had to act hard and fast. Ergo, the KTM 160 Duke seemed to be the most natural move . 

Based On The 200 Duke

The upcoming KTM 160 Duke will likely be based on the 200 Duke, as KTM might tinker around (most likely reduce the stroke) with the engine to make it a 160cc unit. Expect it to make about 20PS and 16Nm. This will not only make it more powerful than the MT-15 but will also have enough gap to distinguish itself from the larger 200 Duke. 

As for the features, it could come with the same TFT console as the other Dukes, as even the Yammie now offers one. Rider aids could (and should) include dual-channel ABS, hopefully switchable for the rear wheel. This will help align the 160 Duke with other bigger models in terms of proper hooliganism. 

As for the pricing, the KTM Duke 160 could command somewhere around Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a little more expensive than the Yamaha MT-15. We’d be the happiest if KTM surprises us with an even lower (introductory) price tag.

What More?

In proper KTM fashion, expect the KTM 160 Duke to be followed by the RC 160, which was even spied testing some time back. Once launched, the new baby RC will rival the Yamaha R15. Expect the RC to launch a couple of months after the Duke arrives (probably during Diwali).
