Royal Enfield has updated its popular Classic range of motorcycles with rear disc brake and new matte colour options

Royal Enfield Classic 50

Royal Enfield has finally updated its most popular motorcycle offering in its stable, the Classic 350 and the Classic 500. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Royal Enfield Classic 500 now come equipped with rear disc brake, something which has been lacking from the time the bikes made their debut in 2008. The rear disc brake unit has been carried forward from the Royal Enfield Thunderbird and so is the swingarm. The Classic 350 will be now available in a new shade of Gunmetal Grey, while its 500cc sibling gets the Stealth Black shade. Talking about the price, the new Classic 350 will retail for Rs 1.59 lakh, while the new Classic 500 carries a sticker price of Rs 2.05 lakh (both prices are on-road Chennai).

Introducing the new motorcycles, Rudratej (Rudy) Singh, president of Royal Enfield, said, “We try to stick to doing things that are authentic. In that spirit, the new Gunmetal Grey and Stealth Black variants of the Classic are an ode to our riders and their journeys. It is an authentic expression of self and a celebration of the dark and the spirit of the various shades of the night when a rider reminisces the day gone by and the day that is to unfold. We are confident that this will resonate with riders and aspirants who believe in what we believe. Pure Motorcycling. With these new Classic additions, riders have more ways to tell their story.”

The retro-lines of the Royal Enfield Classic has made the motorcycle a hit among two-wheeler buyers. Such is its popularity that it features among the top 10 selling two-wheelers in India despite its pricing. Apart from the addition of the rear disc brake and new colour schemes, there has been no new updates on the Classic series. The Classic 350 is powered by a 346cc, single-cylinder motor that delivers 20PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The Classic 500 employs a 499cc, fuel-injected engine that pumps out 27.3PS and 41.3Nm of torque that peaks at 4,000rpm. Both engines come fitted with a 5-speed gearbox.
