Quick Read

  • Priced at Rs 1,24,240 (ex-showroom, Delhi), bookings are open at select dealerships.

  • Powered by a 149cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine compatible with E20 to E85 ethanol blends.

  • Available initially in six states: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

Yamaha has launched the Flex Fuel-compatible FZ Blue Flex in India, priced at Rs 1,24,240 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is the first 150cc bike to be compatible with E20 to E85 fuel blends.

With the launch of the FZ Blue Flex, Yamaha has taken a big step towards broader adoption of flex fuels in the popular 150cc commuter bike segment in India. Its higher blend compatibility gives owners flexibility at the fuel pumps as the blends become widely available in the future.

Design

FZ Blue Flex

The FZ Blue Flex looks exactly the same as the FZ Rave. It gets the same muscular tank and chunky proportions. However, the tank capacity is lower at 12 litres, compared to the 13-litre tank on the Rave. It gets all-LED lighting with the same LED projector headlamp. It is available in a single Black Metallic colour option, which gets black alloy wheels along with FZ Blue Flex stickers, which differentiate it from the FZ Rave.

Powertrain And Technical Specs

FZ Blue Flex

The Yamaha FZ Blue Flex is powered by an E85-compatible 149cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine. It produces 11.7PS and 12.8Nm and is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. It makes 0.7PS and 0.5Nm less than the FZ Rave that it is based on.

The bike gets a telescopic fork and a monoshock. It rides on 17-inch wheels and gets a 282mm disc brake at the front and a 220mm disc brake at the rear. The bike weighs in at 139kg which is 3kg more than the FZ Rave. The FZ Rave is a comfortable bike with easy handling, and so should be the FZ Blue Flex.

Features

FZ Blue Flex

The FZ Blue Flex gets a negative LCD console, which houses the speedometer, tachometer, trip meter, and fuel gauge. The bike also gets single-channel ABS for additional safety.

Price And Availability

The FZ Blue Flex is priced at Rs 1,24,240 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is available in a single variant. It’s Rs 400 more expensive than the FZ Rave.

Initially, the FZ Blue Flex will only be available at select Yamaha Blue Square dealerships in six states: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. This should be in line with the availability of E85 fuel in the country. We can expect it to be available in more states as the E85 fuel becomes more accessible.

The FZ Blue Flex gives buyers a future-proof option that doesn’t cost a whole lot more than the E20-compatible FZ Rave. However, it misses out on a lot of tech features, which the other E20-compatible FZ S models have.
