The KTM RC200 will finally have a formidable rival

The upcoming Yamaha R2 will be built on the same platform as the successful YZF-R15. It is expected to be priced about Rs 2.15 lakh, positioning it as a direct competitor to the KTM RC 200.

Launch Date and Pricing

Yamaha India has sent out a media invite for August 27, which could be for the Yamaha R2 India launch. At its price, the Yamaha R2 will occupy a strategic space in the market. It slots in above the top-spec Yamaha R15 M, which is priced from Rs 1,88,130 to Rs 1,98,340. The pricing also places it just under its main rival, the KTM RC 200, which currently costs Rs 2,24,267 (all prices ex-showroom).

The 200cc Engine

The R2 could be powered by a 200cc engine. It’s expected to have performance figures that will rival the 25PS and 19.2Nm of the KTM RC200. This should provide a significant performance increase over the R15 V4, offering even stronger acceleration and better highway cruising capabilities.

Premium Hardware From the R15 V4

The Yamaha R2 could borrow its high-quality underpinnings from the R15 V4. This includes the proven Deltabox frame, known for its rigidity and handling characteristics. The suspension setup is also expected to be premium, featuring an upside-down (USD) fork and a monoshock, along with capable braking hardware.

Where It Fits the Lineup

Yamaha has already trademarked the R2 name in India, back in late 2025. The motorcycle fills a crucial gap between the entry-level R15 and more powerful middleweight options. The R2 is set to challenge the established 200cc sportbike segment with a well-equipped package.
