The Skoda Kodiaq Scout is the SUV’s off-road-friendly version. The Kodiaq is Skoda’s first ever 7-seater vehicle and was revealed in Berlin back in September 2016. The Scout will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, with all-wheel drive as standard equipment to help it tackle tricky situations with the extra traction.
The Kodiaq is, without a doubt, a chunky 7-seater SUV that looks and feels luxurious inside out. Upon driving the Kodiaq, we found that it continues the legacy of the brand by offering a bunch of thoughtful touches to amp up the feel-good factor in addition to the usual luxury features. It behaves like a car on the road and doesn’t let the driver feel its size and weight.
The Scout differentiates itself by offering tinted rear windshield and rear windows, new 19-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, it gets LED ambient lighting, a modular infotainment matrix with eight speakers, steel pedals along with seats and door trims wrapped in Alcantara.
The four engines on offer include:
On the mechanical front, the Kodiaq Scout will get a healthy 194mm of ground clearance, underbody and engine protection, and multiple driving modes to choose from. There are five options on the menu: Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual and Snow. Based on the selection, the car will electronically alter the behaviour of the power steering, automatic transmission, engine characteristics, air conditioning, ABS, anti-skid control and adaptive cruise control to maximise traction under slippery conditions.
The SUV will also have all-wheel drive in place with an electronically controlled clutch. The system constantly calculates the amount of torque needed at the rear and engages only when it detects a loss of traction. The SUV otherwise sticks with the front-wheel drive nature to maximise fuel efficiency.
Driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, park assist, 360-degree bird's-eye view, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, city emergency braking and pedestrian protection system will also be available with the Scout. How many of these features make it to India remains to be seen.
The Kodiaq is expected to go on sale in India later in 2017 during the festive season to cash in on the spending spree that we’re known to indulge in.
