Just a day after Honda pulled the wraps off the Rebel 1100, the internet is afloat with rumours of Team Red working on an adventure tourer using the Africa Twin’s trusty engine. In fact, designers at Young Magazine have already published renders of what Honda’s CB1100X could look like and to say that it looks stunning would be an understatement.
One glance at the render and you can easily recognise it to be a production-ready version of the CB4X concept that Honda showcased at the EICMA 2019. The Honda CB1100X could feature a similar, front-heavy design with upright ergonomics. Like other tourers, this CB will feature long-travel suspension and tarmac-biased tyres. The renders also showcased provisions for mounting panniers.
While the CB4X was a middleweight adventure tourer using an inline-four powerhouse from the CBR650R, the CB1100X will use the unicam engine belting out 102PS and 105Nm as seen on the Africa Twin. However, we expect it to be slightly mild-mannered compared to the mud-flinging ADV. Like with the Rebel 1100, we expect Honda to offer the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) as an option on this mile muncher.
Honda is likely to throw in a sophisticated electronic package on the CB1100X. We can expect ride-by-wire tech, riding modes, and a 6-axis IMU-based ABS, traction control, and wheelie control.
The CB1100X could make its international debut in late 2021 and go on sale in 2022. If and when launched, the bike will fight for a share of the pie from BMW F 900 XR, Ducati Multistrada 950, Triumph Tiger 900 GT and the recently updated Yamaha Tracer 9.
