ADVs are the new sport bikes. There’s no denying their go-anywhere capabilities have gained them popularity on a scale that nearly every bikemaker has at least one ADV in their ranks. But do you actually need to go big to go away from home?
While our boys were thinking of going on a trip worth remembering, conjuring up dreams with GS-es, Tigers and Africa Twins, they needed to be reminded what India used to, and still does, live with.
So, here’s our feature that’ll make you question whether or not the bike or scooter standing in your parking can go for any adventures.
We picked the segment leaders for this test. The undisputed champion of motorcycles, the Hero Splendor Plus, was a favourite from the start, and so was the king of getting most Indians Leh’d: the Royal Enfield Classic 350. What turned out to be the surprises of the test were the automatics. The Honda Activa 6G proved why it is such an easy tool for personal mobility. And the TVS XL100 Heavy Duty lived up to its name.
