How Does The Updated TVS Supersport Fare Against The Latest RC 390?

The 2022 KTM RC 390 has been unveiled globally and is expected to launch in India by early next year

 

In the past two days, TVS launched their updated Apache RR 310 in India and KTM unveiled the 2022 RC 390 in the international market. Both the bikes have received notable upgrades in their latest iterations. But, how do the two foes fare against each other on paper? Here’s your answer.

In its latest avatar, the TVS Apache RR 310’s motor makes the same power and torque as before. But, the company claims to have improved the engine response. Meanwhile, the 2022 KTM RC 390 now makes 1Nm more than before. While that doesn’t sound like a big bump, the bike has also managed to shed quite a few kgs which should improve its power to weight ratio, making it quick in theory. What also works in favour of the RC is its power advantage. It makes  10PS and 10Nm more than the RR 310, thus giving it the competitive edge on paper

Besides this, KTM also offers an optional quickshifter, which TVS doesn’t.

Both the bikes use a similar frame and suspension setup. However, the 2021 TVS Apache RR 310 gets a  20-step rebound and 10-step preload-adjustable fork with the Dynamic kit. This makes it more flexible be it on the racetrack, city limits or simply touring. Only the international-spec 2022 KTM RC 390 gets the adjustable suspension. We’ll just have to make do with the non-adjustable units, which is a bummer. 

The 2022 KTM RC 390 gets a larger front brake than the Apache RR 310. Combine that with its low weight and you can expect comparatively better stopping performance from the Austrian supersport. Both bikes have dual-channel ABS as standard. KTM claims that the new 5-spoke alloys also weigh 960gm less than the previous ones. This should make it more flickable than before.

With its 180mm ground clearance, the RR 310 should be better suited for our pothole-ridden roads and unmarked speed breakers. The KTM’s ground clearance is comparatively lower. Adding to the practicality quotient, the seat height  of the new RR 310 is also lower than the RC 390, making it more accessible  for shorter riders 

However, the RC 390’s larger fuel tank will keep you on the road much longer as opposed to the RR 310.

Before we jump into the verdict, do note that both the bikes offer a decent list of features including LED lights, a TFT instrument console and smartphone connectivity as well. The Hosur-based bike maker has definitely stepped things up with its premium upgrades and the ability to personalise the bike. 

Last but not least, the asking price for the TVS Apache RR 310 is significantly lower than the price of even the current-gen RC 390, let alone the upcoming model. Hence, the TVS supersport would be the better option to go with.
