The new Sport variant is Rs 25,000 more affordable than the Trophy variant
Misses out on the Easy Ride Clutch
Gets all the other important hardware and features from the Trophy variant
BMW Motorrad has launched the F 450 GS Sport variant in India. Until now the variant was not available for the Indian market, and the lineup only consisted of the Base, Exclusive and Trophy variants. Priced at Rs 5.90 (ex-showroom), the new Sport variant is Rs 25,000 more affordable than the Trophy variant. Here is everything you need to know about it.

The Sport variant of the BMW F 450 GS comes in a sporty looking glossy red shade that makes the bike look quite striking. This shade could be a good choice for people who want a middle-ground between the funky shade of the Trophy variant, and found the black shade of the Base and Exclusive variants a bit too subtle. This variant also comes equipped with a transparent tall windscreen, a plastic engine guard and black hand guards. Another big difference here is the omission of the Easy Ride Clutch system, which automatically operates the clutch and makes riding in traffic and at low speeds easier. This has made the Sport variant more affordable than the Trophy, while retaining the core adventure touring package. It also comes equipped with fully adjustable sport suspension, with rebound and compression adjustments at the front and rebound and preload adjustments at the rear. This variant also gets off-road centric footpegs for better control while tackling rough roads.

The F 450 GS Sport continues to use the same 420 cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine producing 48 PS, 43 Nm and comes paired to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. It also retains the 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup along with dual-purpose tyres. In terms of equipment, the motorcycle gets switchable dual channel ABS, switchable traction control, a 6.5-inch TFT console and Gear Shift Assistant Pro.
The BMW F 450 GS Sport makes sense for buyers who want the performance, electronics and adventure-ready hardware of the top-spec Trophy edition without paying extra for the Easy Ride Clutch. Although the ERC does work quite seamlessly, however, it does make the bike feel slightly lazier, and it’s something purists won't like. Without the ERC the bike is also expected to perform slightly better, and now it could be the sweet spot in the range, especially for experienced riders who prefer a conventional clutch setup.
