BS6-Compliant Yamaha Fascino Spotted Testing For The First Time

    The 2020 Yamaha Fascino has been seen testing for the first time. It is all set to come with a BS6-compliant engine, with fuel injection likely to be offered. Apart from this obvious update, there have been some interesting design changes as well.

    For starters, the scooter appears to have a larger bodywork but the curvy design language has been retained. There's a distinctive swooping line starting all the way from the floorboard and moving on to the rear of the scooter. The side of the apron section looks sharper now. The seat also appears to be longer in comparison to the current model.

    The large area between the tail light and the grab rail indicates that the scooter could have an external fuel filler cap. If that’s the case, expect the underseat storage capacity to go up too. At present, the scooter packs a 21-litre underseat storage compartment which is pretty decent for a scooter in its segment.

    2020 Fascino rear

    Another notable change is that the scooter now gets alloy wheels. The one at the front is likely to be a 12-inch unit whereas the rear looks like a 10-incher. This setup should improve the Fascino’s ride stability as the current-generation Fascino makes do with 10-inch steel wheels on both ends. The test mule features drum brake on both ends with CBS but we hope Yamaha offers a front disc as an option in the new-gen model. Suspension appears to be the same telescopic fork and a single shock absorber setup but expect the units to be tuned differently to handle the extra weight that the scooter is likely to gain with this update.

    As far as the powertrain is concerned, expect the output figures to remain more or less the same despite the addition of a fuel injector. That’s because Yamaha wouldn’t want to compromise on fuel efficiency. Externally, the CVT casing and the airbox design appear to have been redesigned. At present, the Fascino’s 113cc air-cooled engine makes 7.2PS and 8.2Nm.

    Yamaha is also likely to swap the analogue instrument cluster with a semi-digital unit. We wouldn’t be surprised if this console featured Bluetooth connectivity as it seems to be the new norm in recent times.

    Expect the BS6-compliant iteration to command a premium of Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 over its current price of Rs 57,523 (ex-showroom Delhi). Earlier, Yamaha had revealed details about when it would be launching its BS6-compliant range, which you can read here . Hence, it is likely we will see the new Fascino in early 2020. Once launched, the 2020 Fascino will go up against the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa 5G , price-wise.
