Yamaha has rolled out its updated 125cc Fi mild-hybrid scooter range in India, bringing more features and refreshed colours to the table. Oh, the Fascino also gets a TFT console. The 2025 Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid and RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid keep their light, nimble feel but now pack more punch.

‘Tech-packed’ seems to be the buzzword everywhere, and the scooter segment isn’t spared either. Naturally, after Honda, TVS and Suzuki went the TFT route for their 125cc scooters, it seems like Yamaha has followed suit.

At the heart of the update is Yamaha’s new ‘Enhanced Power Assist’ function. Building on the brand’s hybrid platform, it uses the SMG (Smart Motor Generator) to provide extra torque during starts, climbs, and heavy loads.

Yamaha claims this makes acceleration quicker while retaining the fuel efficiency both the scooters are known for. They use the same 125cc, air-cooled, ‘mild-hybrid’ engine that makes 8.2PS and 10.3Nm, and can run on E20 fuel (Gadkari will be happy).

The top-tier Yamaha Fascino S 125 Fi Hybrid now features a colour TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity smartphone, turn-by-turn navigation via Yamaha’s Y-Connect app and Google Maps. Riders get call/SMS alerts, intersection guidance, and on-screen road names for easier city commuting as well. Sadly, it is only available in the top variant, which is available only in one colour (Matte Grey). We’d have liked it if Yamaha offered a few more colour schemes in the top variant.

The Yamaha RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid and its Street Rally version continue to cater to sportier tastes, with aggressive bodywork and in-your-face graphics and 2 colours: Street Rally in Matte Grey Metallic and the Hybrid Disc variant in Silver White Cocktail. The Street Rally variant adds adventure-style touches like block-pattern tyres.

Underneath the vastly different bodywork - both the Yamaha scooters get silent start, idle stop-start, side-stand down engine cut-off, and LED DRLs on select trims. Also common are the underpinnings like the suspension setup, wheel and tyre sizes, 21-litre underseat storage and the 99kg kerb weight is still the lightest for any petrol scooter currently on sale in India.

There are a lot more colours for all the variants of the two scooters, some at different price points as well. The Fascino comes in 8 colours in the drum and disc variant with 3 colours in the S version, apart from the Matte Grey in the top-of-the-line variant. On the other hand, the RayZR is available in 6 colours whereas the Street Rally is draped in 4 shades.

With the improved hybrid assistance and a new display, the Japanese manufacturer aims to stay relevant in the segment. But the interesting thing is that its flagship scooter: the Yamaha Aerox - still doesn't get this TFT. This only means that a launch announcement is due, hopefully before TVS launches the Ntorq 150 on September 1.
