TVS Motor has unveiled the Jupiter CNG at Auto Expo 2025 but is it a better choice over the Jupiter 125, the scooter it is based upon? Let’s have a detailed look at the difference between the two scooters.
The TVS Jupiter CNG gets a fuel tank capacity of 2 litres and a 1.4kg CNG tank. Together, they deliver a range of 226km when full. The Jupiter 125 gets a 5.1-litre fuel tank capacity and with a tested mileage of 55.09kmpl gives it a range of more than 250km.
The Jupiter CNG has a fuel tank capacity of 2 litres and a 1.4kg CNG tank. It has a claimed CNG range of 84km per kg. TVS Jupiter CNG has a combined claimed range of 226km. With petrol cost of about Rs 103 per litre, and CNG price of Rs 82.5/ kg (both national average), the running cost of the TVS Jupiter CNG comes out to be Rs 1.42/km.
The Jupiter 125 returns a tested mileage of 55.09kmpl which includes both city and highway riding. With the range of 250km, and the aforementioned petrol price, the TVS Jupiter 125 has a running cost of Rs 1.87/km.
Both scooters have the fuel tank in the same exact location – under the floorboard. However, the one on the Jupiter 125 is 5.1 litres, while the Jupiter has a 2-litre petrol tank.
Storage capacity on the TVS Jupiter CNG is almost negligible as the CNG tank takes up the entire underseat area. Even though the seat can open, that's just to access the CNG tank opening. The scooter does get a small cubby hole on the front apron to add convenience and decent floorboard space.
The TVS Jupiter 125 gets a massive underseat storage capacity of 33 litres which is more than enough for most people. The front apron too does get two cubby holes which make up additional 2 litres of storage.
The Jupiter CNG gets a semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and a small digital inset. The digital display shows other necessary information such as the time, odometer, trip meters and the fuel gauge. The instrument cluster consists of other tell-tale lights such as the indicators, riding style indicator, fuel warning, etc. The console is quite simple and easy to read.
The TVS Jupiter 125 top variant gets a two-part digital display. The right display shows the essential info like the speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer, etc. The left display has smartphone connectivity and has call/SMS alerts, music control, weather updates, news and sports updates, turn-by-turn navigation and social media updates.
The TVS Jupiter CNG, when launched, should be more expensive than the Jupiter 125 because of the added CNG kit. That said, it trades storage space for the lower running costs. The Jupiter 125 will be more expensive to run. It will all come down to the price of Jupiter CNG, if and when it is launched. That is when we can give a clear verdict by comparing the price difference vis-a-vis the running costs and how much time it will take for you to recover the extra money you pay for the CNG model by the money you save in fuel costs.
