For Indian motorcycling enthusiasts, the Suzuki V-Strom 650 holds a special place. It was the last Suzuki motorcycle in India to use the company's characterful 645cc V-twin engine, earning a reputation for its smooth performance and effortless touring ability. While the V-Strom 650 has since been discontinued, Suzuki introduced its replacement, the V-Strom 800DE. That said, the V-twin formula is back, wrapped in an all-new package called the SV-7GX, a true successor to the V-Strom 650.
At the heart of the SV-7GX is the familiar 645cc, 90-degree V-twin engine that has powered several Suzuki motorcycles over the years. The engine makes 73 PS and 64 Nm. However, this isn't simply an old motorcycle with new bodywork. Suzuki has equipped it with ride-by-wire throttle, allowing the motorcycle to benefit from the latest Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) electronic rider aids.

The ageing LCD instrument console has also made way for a new 4.2-inch TFT display. It also supports smartphone connectivity, enabling turn-by-turn navigation, smartphone notifications and weather updates directly on the display.
The SV-7GX has clearly been developed with real-world usability in mind. Along with its upright riding position, it gets an adjustable windscreen, knuckle guards and an integrated rear luggage carrier. Suzuki has also equipped it with a bi-directional quickshifter, selectable riding modes, traction control and all-LED lighting.

Rather than chasing outright performance figures, Suzuki has focused on making the SV-7GX a motorcycle that can comfortably handle city commutes during the week and highway touring on weekends.
Suzuki has also introduced the SV-7GXV alongside the standard model. Interestingly, the company hasn't stripped away equipment to create a more affordable version. Both motorcycles share the same engine, electronics package and feature list, with the differences largely limited to the paint scheme, graphics and a few styling elements. The GXV, finished in Pearl Brilliant White with blacked-out chassis components, offers a cleaner and more understated look.

The SV-7GX, priced at USD 8,599 (approx Rs 8.28 lakh), shows that Suzuki is paying greater attention to what everyday riders actually want. It retains the engaging character of the tried-and-tested 645cc V-twin engine while adding modern technology and convenience expected from a touring motorcycle in 2026.
While Suzuki India already has the V-Strom 800DE catering to adventure touring enthusiasts, we'd certainly love to see the SV-7GX arrive on our shores. It would be a fitting spiritual successor to the V-Strom 650, bringing back Suzuki's much-loved V-twin experience in a more modern, feature-rich package.
