The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE has been spied testing here for the first time, and boy is it exciting! The major reason for our excitement is the brand new 776cc parallel-twin engine, making 84.3PS and 78Nm. If this motor is anything like the one on the current V-Strom 650 XT, it’d be an absolute treat. That V-twin is smooth, friendly and torquey, meaning you don’t really have to struggle to keep it chugging: always a boon when taking it off-road.
And take it off-road you will, with all the equipment on offer: a 21-/17-inch wire-spoke wheel setup, fully adjustable Showa suspension, massive 220mm ground clearance and switchable ABS! Suzuki has even upped the game in terms of electronics, giving the V-Strom 800DE a three-mode traction control, bidirectional quickshifter, ride-by-wire and even four riding modes, all of which can be accessed by a modern-looking 5-inch TFT display.

But where Suzuki has taken a big step backwards, is with the tubed tyres. Given that the smaller V-Strom 650 XT gets tubeless wire-spoke rims, not giving the same on the 800DE just doesn’t make sense.
Nevertheless, we’re still very excited for the bike and we hope you are too! Especially because we think the bike could come here as early as July-August this year. Prices could begin from Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom); and once here, it’ll rival the Triumph Tiger 900, BMW F 850 GSA and the upcoming Honda XL750 Transalp.
