An upcoming scooter from Ather has been spied testing and from the looks of it, it seems like the EV will be more of a family scooter than a sporty one.

The new electric scooter gets an overall boxy design and the boxy panels similar to the TVS iQube. Other details spotted in the spy shots include the wheel design being similar to that of the Ather 450S/Ather 450X, apron mounted headlight, foldable pillion footrest, and a petal disc brake up front. Moreover, the foldable pillion footrest – not available in the 450 range at the time of launch but was developed much later –will be available from the get-go in the upcoming scooter.

Next, Ather’s upcoming family scooter has a larger, flat floorboard area and what appears to be a more spacious seat than that of the 450X and 450S. The rear view mirror, though similar to the 450X, is mounted on simpler stalks . Also, the side panel and the seat design seem derived from that of the maxi scooter, the patents of which surfaced earlier. Another interesting attention to detail (something Ather’s known for) is that the camouflage integrates a patterned cartoon drawing of a family, reiterating the scooter’s purpose.

The family scooter from Ather is expected to get the same 2.9kWh capacity battery pack, 5.4kW peak power output motor, and LCD instrument console from the 450S. We might see Ather launch an LR (Low Range) version first and then an HR (High Range) version afterwards, just like the other models from the EV maker’s lineup.

The upcoming Ather family scooter is expected to be launched sometime towards the end of 2024 or early 2025 and will likely be priced at Rs 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom including FAME 2 subsidy). For perspective, the Ather 450S is priced at Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including FAME 2 subsidy). If our educated guess is true, then it'll ensure Ather has two different scooters catering to two different audiences at the same price point.
