Based on Honda’s capable 500cc platform, the Scrambler looks ready to get down and dirty

Honda has pulled out the big guns at EICMA 2022 and another new bike it brought to Milan is the all-new CL500 Scrambler. The stunning-looking Scrambler is based on Honda’s capable 500cc platform (that comprises Honda Rebel 500 and CBR500R) and here are the highlights:

It takes styling and design inspiration from the iconic CLs of the 1960s and 70s fusing classic appeal with modern equipment. It gets an LED round headlight, a chiselled fuel tank with knee recesses and tank pads and minimal body panels. It gets a ribbed single-piece seat and the taillight unit is a rather intriguing one which pops out of the fender with a curved rectangular design.

It is powered by a Honda’s capable 471cc twin cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 46.6PS and 43.4Nm. The motor is paired to a six-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch.

The underpinnings include a 41mm telescopic fork with gaiters and pre-load-adjustable dual shock absorber suspension setup. For braking, the bike uses a 310mm floating disc with a two-piston calliper and a 240mm disc with a single-piston calliper.

It also gets dual channel ABS, which Honda claims to be optimised for dirt tracks as well as roads. It rolls on a 19-/17-inch alloy wheel setup with dual sport-ish tyres - something similar to the Honda CB350RS.

The bike gets a seat height of 790mm and 155mm of ground clearance, which wouldn't be so ideal for trail-taming.

In terms of features, it comes equipped with all-LED lighting and a monopod LCD console housing the speedometer, trip metres, fuel level and consumption gauge, clock, gear position and an upshift indicator. However, it misses out on smartphone connectivity and navigation, something that would have been useful.

Prices of the Honda CL500 Scrambler are yet to be announced, but could it be coming to India? We hope it does, as its sibling, the Honda CB500F was spotted at an Indian dealership as well.
