Jitendra New EV Tech, an electric scooter manufacturer and Log9 Materials, a Bengaluru-based battery technology start-up have joined hands to produce e-scooters with the capability of fully charging in just 15 minutes. Both the companies have signed an MOU for a long term collaboration.
Jitendra EV’s pre-existing high speed electric scooter, the JMT 1000HS, is powered by a 1000 Watt BLDC motor paired to a 2.04kWh Lithium-ion removable battery. It offers a range of 90km on a single charge and takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge the battery.
However, the auto-manufacturer will be updating the JMT 1000HS e-scooter with a new variant called Rapid. It will come with Log9’s RapidX 2000 batteries (50.6V 40Ah) and Instacharge technology that is claimed to take no more than 15 minutes to completely charge the e-scooter. This is not the conventional li-ion battery pack. In fact, Log9 uses aluminum fuel cell battery tech which makes it safer and has a better energy density than the former and can be operated across -30 to +60 degree celsius. Li-ion batteries are safe when operated between -10 to +30 degrees Celsius temperature range. Log9 Materials also claim that their battery technology ensures nine times faster charging, better performance and battery life with an operational life of more than 15,000 cycles and 10 years.
It is claimed that the upcoming EV will offer a range of 82km and will have a carrying capacity of 150kg. Other specs of the scooter are expected to remain the same as the standard model, and if you were planning to buy one, we have some sad news for you. The JMT 1000HS Rapid is a last mile logistics and delivery vehicle which will not be available for regular citizens.
Features on the JMT 1000HS standard model include: central locking with anti-theft alarm, keyless, Find-My-Scooter function, USB charging port, three ride modes and a reverse mode. However, considering that the upcoming scooter is a b2b, it might skimp out on some of the features.
Summing up, rapid charging technology is something that has a lot of potential in turning the masses towards electric vehicles, and Ola Electric recently invested in an Israel-based battery cell tech company that can charge an EV in just five minutes. We can expect to see the tech in the next-gen Ola S1’s. Gogoro, a Taiwanese e-scooter and battery swapping company unveiled a prototype of the world’s first solid state lithium ceramic swappable battery which increases the capacity of current lithium batteries by more than 140 percent and also offers faster charging capabilities.
