TVS NTORQ 125 Specifications

The TVS NTorq is powered by a 124.8cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine putting out 9.38PS and 10.5Nm. However, if you opt for the Race XP variant, the same motor is tweaked to deliver 10.2PS and 10.8Nm, making it the most powerful 125cc scooter in India. Suspension duties on the TVS NTorq 125 are handled by a telescopic fork and a monoshock at the rear. The 220mm front disc brake is optional, however, the CBS remains standard regardless of the variant.

TVS NTORQ 125 Design

The NTorq 125's snazzy and sporty design is one of the main reasons why it is such a popular scooter among the younger crowd. The BS6 Ntorq carries forward the same design seen on the older scooter but the Race Edition features bolder graphics, hazard lights, and an LED headlight. Upping the ante is the newly launched Race XP variant which gets a striking red/white/grey livery and flashy red alloy wheels. Meanwhile, if you're an Avengers fan, the NTorq also comes in a Super Squad edition, which comes with a choice of three Marvel Avengers superhero-inspired graphics.

Thanks to its latest update, the TVS NTorq 125 is easily the most feature-loaded ICE scooter on sale in the country. It gets a multifunction LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity to track various parameters of the scooter using the TVS SMARTXONNECT app. Other notable features include turn-by-turn navigation, 22-litre underseat storage with a USB charging port and boot light, external fuel filler cap, LED tail lamp, engine-kill switch, and pass-beam function. Topping this list are the two new segment-first additions -- Voice assisted controls and riding modes (only present on the Race XP variant). While the riding modes let you choose between Race and Street modes, the voice assist covers functions like mode change, navigation, console brightness adjustment and DnD mode.

NTORQ 125 Detailed Review

In a country where scooters are considered mere tools for commuting, getting from point A to point B, it’s difficult to imagine them bringing a sense of excitement. But that notion was disproved by the likes of the Italians, with the Aprilia SR150, which showed that sporty scooters can work in India, at least to a certain extent. But while it might be easier to go down a niche path of making a scooter outright sporty, it’s a lot trickier to do a blend of excitement and practicality. But TVS might just have nailed that formula with the NTorq 125.

The NTorq was a long time coming. TVS had showcased the Graphite concept back at Auto Expo 2016, and one can clearly see the design influences from the concept bike to the production model.

She’s got the look

While some of the more extreme design touches of the Graphite concept, such as the single, offset projector headlamp, the oddly shaped digital instrument cluster, and the completely exposed gas-charged rear monoshock haven’t made it into production, but the overall sharp lines and angles have. TVS says that this design has been inspired from stealth fighters, and okay, we’ll give them that. Though to really carry this stealth fighter motif, a matte dark gray paint scheme would’ve been perfect. That said, the current four paint schemes - matte yellow, matte green, matte red and matte white - do look sporty.

TVS has certainly played it safe with the front-end design of the NTorq, which feels like a derivative. Its halogen headlamp looks like it was inspired from that of the Honda Dio. There’s no LED headlight on offer though, but it does feature an LED DRL, which TVS says has a “bat-wing” design… yeah right… looks more like the bowtie logo of a certain American car maker. The front indicators are integrated into the handlebar cowl, and if I’m being honest, they look a bit insipid.

But safe isn’t a word that you would use to describe the rear-end design. TVS had been teasing everyone with that taillight design for a little while before the NTorq’s launch, and it does look pretty sweet in the flesh. The jet exhaust like faux vents at the back might feel like overkill to some, but we certainly do like them. That said, the more subtle vents on the Graphite concept along with its more 3D-style tail light might’ve hit the spot better. We like the rear indicators though. They’re mounted on small stalks (like on a motorcycle), but flow into the shape of the rear.

But the NTorq boasts something that we’ve rarely seen on Indian scooters, and that is a ridiculous attention to detail. The carbon fibre style trim on the seat with red stitching, machined footpegs and filler cap, the carbon texture around the switches - it all looks properly upmarket. The switchgear quality too is top-notch, and the switches themselves are large for easy access and feel quite tactile as well. And it also gets an engine kill switch - something we’ve never seen on any scooter in India.

Connected and smart

There has been a lot of hype regarding the NTorq’s fully-digital SmartXonnect instrument cluster, that allows riders to pair their phones to it using Bluetooth. But it does live up to all that hype. It comes with a smartphone app, only on Android so far, that once paired, can show you where you parked your scooter, and also also generate a report for your last ride, showing you distance covered and top speed achieved. Using the app’s built-in navigation (with maps from MapMyIndia), you can search for a destination to begin route guidance. The navigation assist will then display directions on the console.

There are personalisation features as well, which let you customise your rider name, which will then be flashed on the screen the next time you start the scooter. And there’s a “do not disturb” mode, which can then use the “auto reply SMS” feature to send a message to anyone who calls you when you’re riding. You can even set an overspeeding alert, which will display a warning once you cross your set speed limit. The instrument cluster itself can also record top speed, and has a lap timer as well. A bit too much? Well, I think most youngsters will beg to differ!

A new heart

For the NTorq, TVS developed an all-new engine from the ground up, and this is one of the most powerful motors in the 125cc scooter segment. It makes 9.4PS at 7,500rpm - one the highest in this class of scooter. This 124.79cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor gets a 3-valve head that allows it to rev a bit higher than other scooters, but manages a similar torque figure to its rivals - 10.5Nm coming in at 5,500rpm. With one extra PS of power as compared to its immediate competition, you would think that the NTorq would feel really quick. But while it feels reasonably so, it’s acceleration won’t really blow your mind. That said, TVS does claim a quickest-in-class zero to 60kmph time of 9 seconds. But we’d have to properly test the NTorq to verify that claim.

Acceleration to 30kmph from a standstill feels quite brisk. There’s a strong mid-range too, but progress from about 60kmph, though, tapers off. The NTorq remains fairly stress free up to 80kmph, something scooter speed junkies are sure to appreciate. Beyond that, like most scooters in this space, it feels a bit out of breath. However, on the long straight at the TVS test track, we did manage to see 96kmph on the speedo, so the company’s claim of a top speed of 95kmph is quite believable.

With a kerb weight of 116.1kg, it is the heaviest scooter in its class. So, that weight also affects how quick the NTorq feels when you open the gas. Also the variomatic feels like it has been tuned for more everyday use and economy as compared to outright performance. That said, the motor is extremely refined, with almost no vibes at any speed. There is a fairly audible induction noise, which along with its raughty exhaust note, eggs you to open the throttle hard.

Nimble and fun

The NTorq is built around an all-new underbone chassis, and sports telescopic suspension at the front, with a gas-charged monoshock at the back. The front suspension is definitely set up a bit on the firmer side, and that definitely helps the NTorq turn in pretty quickly, even with a small input at the handlebars. This quick steering does take a bit of getting used to, almost like the earlier Apaches. But at the same time, its longish wheelbase of 1285mm, makes it feel planted through the corners.

And a lot of the NTorq’s handling prowess is down to specially developed TVS Remora tyres, which have a very rounded profile and are the widest in this segment of scooters - 100x80x12 at the front, and 110x80x12 at the back. These tyres do allow for surprisingly high lean angles, but we could’ve really done with stickier rubber. Here, it feels like the compromise is towards life rather than outright grip. Even then, some of the journalist junta testing the NTorq around the long sweeping corners at the TVS track managed to scrape the underfloor body panels.

This compromise towards practicality can also be felt when it comes to the rear suspension. It feels a bit soft when leaned over, causing the scooter to wallow a bit through fast corners. But the high-frequency damping is absolutely on point. Over the Belgian pave test track at the TVS facility, the suspension totally ironed out all the bumps, provided you tackled them at a bit of speed. Going slower though, the horrifyingly bumpy surface of the Belgian pave could be felt.

In the braking department, the NTorq comes equipped with a 220mm petal disc brake at the front and a 130mm drum at the back. The bite from the front disc isn’t overly sharp, but it provides good feel and progressive deceleration. The rear though is surprisingly sharp in bite. Use any one, or both the brakes in tandem, and the NTorq pulls to a stop without any drama, at least on the dry, smooth tramac of the test track. TVS isn’t offering ABS or its Sync braking system on this scooter at the moment, but we’re told that the latter will be offered in the near future.

Living with it

But the NTorq plays in a scooter segment where practical matters… er… matter. So while its intentions might be sporty, it really can’t afford to miss out on these aspects. And here’s where we have a few gripes. The floorboard, for example, has adequate space for someone with big feet, but won’t hold much more than a small laptop bag. Forget about carrying groceries for the whole family or an LPG cylinder. But that might be forgivable, considering the fact that the NTorq is aimed towards youngsters - Gen Z as TVS likes to say. And though there are a couple of luggage hooks, they will certainly mind the lack of cubby holes on the front to carry mobile phones and other knick-knacks.

The NTorq’s 22 litres of underseat storage is highest in its class - a whole one litre more than the Suzuki Access. That said, it still won’t accomodate most international-spec full face helmets, but should be more than enough for most other things. And it does get a USB charging port and a little boot light. But what the NTorq gains in underseat storage, it loses in fuel tank capacity - just 5.0 litres - the least in its class. And that really emphasises that the NTorq is still urban at heart.

That said, TVS has absolutely nailed the ergonomics of the NTorq. The seat is soft, but not overly so, and that allowed us to spend over an hour in the saddle without any aches or pains. The handlebar height is spot on too, so even taller riders won’t have the bar ends hit their knees while taking U-turns.

Final thoughts

When it comes to making a scooter that blends practicality and excitement, TVS has checked all the right boxes with the NTorq. Though, overall, as a package, it still veers more towards practicality. But you know one box it checks better than the rest is value. At Rs Rs 58,750 (ex-showroom Delhi), it almost matches its competition from Suzuki and undercuts its Honda rival by a fair margin. And at the same time, it offers a great riding experience, a fair bit of performance, and a whole raft of features which are not only funky, but extremely useful as well. And that, in our books makes for a great scooter.

  • I am 6.2 height from Bangalore, For TVS Ntorq( I'll refer this as bike hereafter), I have altered bike seat to match my height, bike balance is really good after seat alteration, Mileage in city for my rough ride (30-100kmph speeds)used to get around 35kmpl. when I travel to my hometown, I got mileage around (30kmpl) when I ride @105 kmph, 42 kmpl mileage with average speed of 75 kmph & when I ride in economy like 55 kmph, i got 55 kmpl mileage. So, Mileage depends on how much speed I ride. My ride is for 200 KMS for my home town, went around 4 times to my hometown town, I never stopped my bike until I reached home, I usually fill shell power petrol when I ride long distances, I'll suggest it to everyone otherwise bike will be heated up with normal petrol.I bought my bike in EMI without knowing which financier to choose, simply went through the Showroom peoples choice & didn't knew who is financing my bike until my bike got delivered to me ,though it is not a bad choice, I believe we must be knowing that minimum information to compare if we had any better choices in financing our bike.TVS Service is really good, costed me around 1100 rupees for first 4 free services with oil change 2 times, this is best compared to other Brands.Bike not punctured even once.my daily commute is for 10 KMS a day with up and down to office usually takes 10 minutes to reach.Accessories I have bought guards for 2000 rupees, which I regret,I think there's no need of them, it really spoils the bike look. If you want to buy, then buy black color one, don't go for steel color.I have bought a new bolt & nut, cost 10 rupees for exhaust/ silencer when I missed them while riding due to bike rubbling except that I never spent any other money other than petrol.Bike is awesome for it's Torque & power, I felt like no bike can compete with this NTorq.Instrument cluster is also very useful & is not available with others in this range.So, go for itIn a year, ride is 7500 KMS and it is great that this bike is up to my expectations

  • I think the NTorq is the best 125cc scooter in the Indian market. It's a perfect balance between the conventional 'going to buy sth' scooter experience and performance-oriented motoscooter segment. It can do jobs of both worlds. I'm getting a decent mileage of 40-45 kmpl which is not bad and is compensated by it's unique design n look. The performance is great, churns out 9.4 PS of power and can easily reach speeds of 90kmph. It can touch the magic 100 too. The torque provided by the motor is amazing. Overtakes are pretty easy. Rider comfort is great. The suspension is stiffer than the Activa or Access but it's not as stiff as Aprilia. It handles the roughness of Indian roads with ease. The pillion experience is better than any other scooter in the market. It's a fun scooter, easy to maneuver and park. Don't get me started on the first in segment bluetooth connectivity. It's really helpful (atleast to boast about). The navigation works like a charm. It shows the last parked location making it easier to search your ntorq among the crowd. Talking about the underseat storage, it has 22 ltrs of boot space but it's design makes it difficult to fit a full-faced helmet. You can fit a modular helmet just fine. The 12 inch tyres provide a great grip, even in the rain. The front disc provides a good bite but the rear drum doesn't do the job well. You get performance and comfort in a single package. Lastly, the quality of the switches is top notch (just TVS things). Now the maintenance and service center efficiency varies from place to place. In Bhubaneswar, it's time taking but satisfactory service.

  • N Torq is really one of the best scooter in 125cc segment. I have done 2500 KM and I feel its a worth buy for your everyday use to office. I use it pillion everyday for about 45-50 Km and it never disappoints you. Power is just what you need in city or highway. Sound is best compare to any scooter. Comfortable to sit and ride for long hours also. The connectivity system is good for android user, However, except the call display and few digital indicators nothing much is useful in day t day life. Map/Direction is not effective in real world. However it definitely an added feature.Improvements - Yes, Petrol tank size is too less compare to mileage we get. All in all a full tank gives you 150 Km which is too less as I have to top up my tank every third day. I am getting constant mileage of 35KM/L, hoping it may improve after second service which is due already at 2500KM. Another, draw back is unavailability of Apple Phone"s connectivity. This should be treated immediately as I phone user like me will start avoiding the scooter despite having such good features.

  • I bought a new scooty of the month of july 13. After some time, there was a mild sound in Scooty. After which I took Scooty to the service center. Whose information I had given to the service center during the first service. After 1 week of service suddenly this noise increased. After that, I called the service center again andtold them all the problems. They asked us to bring a scooty service center. The next morning, while going to the service center, Scootystopped on the road (that can be the cause of accidents because a truck coming from the backside.We survived that day) After which I all them and they took Scooty to the service center. Where it turns out that Scooty's engine has a problem (manufacturing defects). Which he talked about fixing(September 14). So Now wefear to repeat it again. I already report to TVS customer care they give me 48 hours to call from there technical team but it's more the 3 days no phone call. and no respond of mail.

  • I'm shakkir cp , daily user (6000km) Using race edition before I buy I hoped tvs solved all the problem of 1st model but still the problems there .I know this is the best performer and stability with handling.Poor build quality and comfort OK. After 3rd service claimed 37km/L before 41km/L Handle position is not good making pain to hand handle bar changed 2times and fine . next vibration, higher initial vibration in the scooter segment Normally the problem starting after 15000 km with normal ride Here started 2500km after clutch greasing problem not solved.2nd type vibration facing economy speed (40-55km)and the problem mentioned 3rd service but not solved .Next one common issue starting problem want to hold 4or5 sec self to start and using kicker after 24 kick to start Service response not good ,not bad.All is manufacturing defect.TVS still not solving any issue I don't know why?

  • Guys stop pretending like it's not an issue at all...!!! we are paying for a good vehicle, yall know that it's really damn embarrassing to buy a premium vehicle for such a price range and it has some serious issues like self start not working, kick start is also almost the same..!!! TVS has lost its value on my preference..!   • It depends on your viewpoint. To most people, its mileage is the only negative point. Mileage with a consciously relaxed riding is around 45 kmpl, I have seen it on highways. But once you are astride, it is very difficult not to ride this scooter in a spirited manner. I should not malign other scooters, but to put it otherwise , one should not expect that a KTM Duke 125 will get you the same mileage as a Honda Shine SP 125, even though both have 125 cc engine.On a dily basis, you should get a below 40 figure on Ntorq, if you pamper its sporty nature.
  • Actually you don't know how to measure of milage of any scooty. Process of milage testing is only one that is milage test by the help measurement container filled with petrol, limited speed 40-45 p/h and limited distance say 8,10 or 12 kms. Another thing air filter will be clean because air filter is the nose of a vehicle as like as human. After 1500-1700 kms we are able to get perfect milage of a two-wheeler.

  • Yes the same problem for my Ntorq purchased in 2019.I am raising this issue from my first service ownwards but now after the 3rd service not resolved. The atual issue is when i tried to self start the bike after two days from idle point, i wont start in the self motor and i habe to use the pedal atleast 15-20 times. The service centre persons told that this bike fits with Auto choke and not like other scooter.we have to uae pedal when you start the vehicle when after a break of two or more days. I do not understand rhe logic behind it. So why they have a self start in it. Iam using Honda dio also but to be frank, if we have enough power in the battery that will get started on the motor after two more weeks. But there we just have to pull the choke. If the issue is with the Auto choke why they continue using it if that makes trouble for the customers. Also i would like to specify that it is a very poor built quality but it looks so like. Fed up woth this new bike and i recommend others to think twice before making a buying. Its noy a bullying but from my real experience.

  • Guys stop pretending like it's not an issue at all...!!! we are paying for a good vehicle, yall know that it's really damn embarrassing to buy a premium vehicle for such a price range and it has some serious issues like self start not working, kick start is also almost the same..!!! TVS has lost its value on my preference..! Service centers are literally s rude if it's a TVS Ntorq vehicle..!! stop pretending like the vehicle is good, in fact, it is just a piece of shit..!!!!I will never recommend TVS anymore to anyone..! mine is just 2000km and the vehicle has Self-start issues like 10year old one..!! like seriouslyjQuery2240048479849082256665_1602075376632?? TVS has to pay for its cheat and fraud on Indian consumers..!!
