Experience

Currently own a 2018 jeep compass limited 2.0l manual diesel. This is the first non-sedan and hatchback vehicle we picked up, moved from a 1st generation Maruti Swift with the 1.3l fiat engine which was rebranded as this under Maruti, that car was our go-to for most highway commutes owed to its stability due to the weight and also the power that engine had to offer. Both dad and I clocked nearly 1.2lkms on that do before we parted with it. Did consider a few other options we had at the time, The first gen Creta, The Ford Eco Sport, S-cross, Duster, and Terrano. Test drove all the cars but none of them checked all the boxes we had for the successor. Jeep was just about to set foot into the market back then, spoke to dad about it, had lengthy conversations about the vehicle and all features on offer, and went on 3 different test drives over a span of 6 months, and dad finally was convinced that this was the right choice. Had a clutch assembly issue, with the response being too hard to use for stop-and-go city commutes and also the highways, all the early released models of 2018 got a replacement from the dealerships free of charge. Our car has seen a fair amount of incidents which could have been far worse than what they were, only due to the importance that the manufacturers give to the built quality of the vehicle, this car has seen us through good days and rough ones, but always brought us back home in one piece. Talking about the drive experience is key. This vehicle was built for the highways and it performs butter smooth, after you've touched 5th gear in flowing traffic, all you're going to use the clutch for is to upshift to 6th when you've gained and reached the speed you want to be consistently driving at, and on occasion downshift just to the 5th if it drops to 60kmph or so because the engine will smoothly pick up speed without having to stress the engine much by shifting through many gears, churning revs and dumping the clutch to get a quick boost. Not saying you can't do that, but scenarios that need you doing that will be very few. The maintenance and servicing are on the pricey end of affairs, not so bad that it's bleeding your pocket dry every time you drop by the service centers. Another thing to mention would be the maintenance charges post the warranty period, our car hasn't really given us any problems thus far on the mechanical side of things, ( which is something jeep is infamous for, most people steer away from it because of the reliability issues on the long run) its seen one break pad change recently. Its closing in on the clutch replacement period but, From what our service exec says, The clutch is in great condition right now and we might only need to look into a replacement around the 75k mark, they have been keeping an eye on the clutch assembly from the 40k mark because most of their other users saw replacements at the 45-50k mark. Our car is at 56k as I write this. I can't really speak for the automatic DCT transmissions, but I'm sure it is a synonymous experience, maybe even smoother for stop-and-go traffic.

Handles like a dream and glides over bad roads like they don't even exist.And it has torque to spin irs wheels in mist gears with the traction control off.An average economy of sixteen kilometers to the liter just makes it a dream.Jeeps service is great too.
