  • Compass facelift debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show recently.
  • It gets a revised fascia and a brand new dashboard.
  • New features include connected car suite, ventilated front seats, and digital driver’s display.
  • Should retain the existing 2.0-litre diesel and 1.4-litre petrol engines.

The facelifted Jeep Compass debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. We now have good news for those eagerly waiting for it in India. Jeep dealerships across the country have begun unofficial pre-launch bookings for the upcoming SUV for a token amount of Rs 50,000. What's more, is that it could be launched on Jaunary 07.

The facelifted Compass gets a slightly tinkered exterior design that induces an air of freshness. The seven slat grille now features chrome studs, flanked by sharper-looking LED headlamps with LED DRLs. Then there are the bumpers which are more aggressive and house the fog lamps in deeper recesses. Save for the new alloy wheels and tail lamps, the rest of the design remains unchanged. Jeep could also offer the updated Trailhawk variant from day one. Take a closer look at it here

While exterior changes are minuscule, the facelifted Compass’ interior is brand new. It features a layered dashboard with a tan finish as seen on the China-spec model. The new 10.1-inch infotainment, which comes with Jeep’s Uconnect 5 system with a connected car suite, is the highlight here. Even the driver gets his own share of updates in the form of a new steering wheel and a digital driver’s display.

In terms of new features, the Compass comes with a wireless phone charger, 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats. Features like dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof.  cruise control and keyless entry with push-button start will be retained. Safety will be covered by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control.

The facelifted Compass should continue to utilise the existing model’s 170PS 2.0-litre diesel engine and 163PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit. Just like before, it should come with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The petrol automatic variant is likely to retain the dual-clutch transmission while the diesel will use the ZF-sourced 9-speed unit.

The Compass is currently priced from Rs 16.49 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the facelifted Compass to command a premium over the existing model. Moreover, now is the right time to take the plunge as the manufacturer is offering benefits up to Rs 2 lakh on the existing Compass. The facelifted Compass will renew its rivalry with the Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Karoq, Tata Harrier, and the upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross
