The TVS Akula, or TVS Apache RR310S as it will be called in production guise, is among the most keenly awaited new motorcycle launches of 2017. The bike has generated a lot of curiosity among Indian buyers and there is good reason for it. TVS delivered with the Apache RTR200, which went on to bag many awards and in our opinion is among the best motorcycles on sale for around Rs 1 lakh. With the new Apache RR310S, TVS wants to step up the ante as it will be its first full-faired motorcycle to go on sale and, given the increasing demand for entry-level performance bikes, it will be an important product. We have seen spy images of the upcoming TVS bike undergoing testing, and now a patent image of the bike has surfaced, giving us a glimpse of its design language. From the image we can figure out that the bike will be aggressively designed, with a sharp-looking face with twin headlamps that are likely to be LED units. The body panel has a small vent at the rear and designers have also exposed the trellis frame and the monoshock spring, which looks cool. The tall windscreen will reduce wind blast and the large tank hints at high tank capacity, and both these factors will be beneficial while touring. Split seats look good while the alloy wheels and the exhaust muffler have been carried forward from the BMW G 310 R on which the new Apache RR310S has been based. The bike also gets equipped with USD forks at the front, finished in gold, which gives it a sporty stance. It gets a vertically stacked full-digital instrument cluster and we expect it to get features like lap timer, top-speed recorder and acceleration timing recorder.
The frame, USD front forks and monoshock suspension have been carried forward from the BMW G 310 R that is being manufactured at TVS’s Hosur plant. It shares the BMW G 310 R’s 313cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine which develops 34PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. However we aren’t sure whether the power figures will remain same for the TVS Apache RR310S. Braking is done by disc brake units on both ends and ABS is likely to be an optional extra. The launch of the TVS Apache RR310S has been delayed a lot and we expect to see the fastest TVS bike to make its debut in the coming few months. We expect it to be priced around Rs 2 lakh, and it will compete against the KTM RC 390 and the soon to be relaunched Honda CBR250R.
