Hosur-based two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motors intends to raise the bar in the sub-400cc segment with the Apache RR 310 BS6. For 2020, the bike gets improved electronics, more features, an updated engine, and better tyres. There’s a lot that’s gone into the bike to keep it in fighting shape. Here’s everything you need to know about the BS6 RR 310 in 5 points:

Performance On Tap, Literally!

Stringent emission norms are known to take a toll on engine performance. Thankfully, TVS has managed to work around this, and how! Yes, the bike uses an updated 312.2cc, BS6-compliant liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor, but it manages to make the same 34PS and 27.3Nm as before. Moreover, according to TVS, minor internal changes have been made to the engine to improve refinement.

But the RR 310's party piece is the inclusion of ride modes (Rain, Urban, Sport, Track), which actually work unlike some of the current bikes in the market. You also have ride-by-wire for precise throttle inputs. Essentially, you have two different power maps. One is for the first two modes to restrict output to 28.5PS, the second unleashes the full 34PS. Same goes for torque -- 25Nm and 27Nm.

These modes also optimise the bike’s ABS sensitivity and intrusion according to road conditions. Simply put, the ECU automatically adjusts settings according to the mode.

More importantly, the BS6 RR 310 remembers the mode you are in even if the engine is switched off and turned back on. Although, you'll have to be a bit patient as you can take advantage of the more aggressive Sport and Track mode only after the bike’s run-in period and first service.

A 5-inch Full-Colour TFT Screen:

Another notable update is the all-new 5-inch full-colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. It displays post-ride analytics, gear shift assist indicator, turn-by-turn navigation, vehicle health information, vehicle status, and overview. Besides this, you can also accept and reject calls using the control cubes placed on the left-hand side switchgear. It also gets a hazard switch.

Glide Through Technology PLUS (GTTP).

Adding to its list of updates is GTTP (Glide Through Technology Plus). This feature allows riders to amble around in city traffic using just the clutch. In other words, the bike can move at a steady 35kmph in sixth with zero throttle input.

Better Tyres:

The Apache RR 310's Michelin Pilot Street radials have been swapped out for stickier Michelin Road 5, W-rated radials. TVS has tweaked the internals of the bike’s suspension setup to aid its handling characteristics. The hardware though remains unchanged.

How Much Does All This Cost?

It all boils down to the cost. And we believe, TVS has hit the nail on the head with this one. The entire package costs just Rs 2.40 lakh -- a hike of Rs 12,000 over the previous-gen model, which retails at Rs 2.28 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). That’s a lot of kit for a lot less money. It’s also better equipped to take on the likes of the KTM RC 390 BS6, which costs Rs 8,000 more.
