Triumph Tiger Explorer India Launch on July 25

Triumph Motorcycles has dominated proceedings in the performance adventure bike segment in India with the launch of the Tiger range of motorcycles in 2013. The British brand is now getting ready to expand its adventure tourer portfolio by launching the new Tiger Explorer on July 25. It will be the third new Triumph motorcycle to makes its way to India this year after the Triumph Bonneville Bobber and the  Triumph Street Triple S. In terms of appearance, there are hardly any differences between the older bike and the new machine as Triumph engineers have focussed their attention on mechanical updates and loading the bike with more electronic goodies than before. Powering the Triumph Tiger Explorer is a new 1215cc triple-cylinder motor that is Euro 4-compliant and delivers 139PS at 9300rpm and 123Nm of peak torque at 6200rpm, which is a hike of 2PS and 2Nm when compared to the older motor. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via 6-speed transmission. While only one variant of the old Tiger Explorer (XC) was on sale in India, the new bike is offered in a staggering eight variants in the international market - XR, XRx Low, XRx, XRt, XC, XCx, XCx Low and the XCa. The new Triumph Explorer XCx, XCa, XRx and XRt variants now features five ride modes, semi-active suspension, switchable ABS, cornering ABS and traction control along with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). The IMU improves performance by controlling the electronic aids based on readings from the bikes movement along 6-axes based on pitch, roll, and yaw movement. The base Tiger Explorer XR and XC feature standard multi-channel switchable ABS and traction control but lack other electronic wizardry like its siblings. 

The 2016 Tiger Explorer also features Hill Hold Control, which stops the bike from rolling back when starting on a steep incline. While the older bike was priced at Rs 18.75 lakh, we expect the new motorcycle to command a small premium given the new updates. The new Tiger Explorer’s primary rivals include the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the BMW R 1200 GS.
