Bonneville T40 Key Highlights
Price: The baby Triumph Bonneville comes in 2 variants: top end T40/T40 Black priced at Rs 2,79,999 (prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
Design: The Bonneville T40 takes inspiration from Triumph’s larger Bonneville motorcycles. In fact, if you don’t look at the engine, the rest of the bodywork seem very similar to the bigger Bonnies. This includes the round LED headlight, full-length fenders (a god-send in monsoon), peashooter-style exhaust, twin rear shocks and spoked wheels. Other retro touches include rubber tank knee pads, the three-bar Triumph tank badge, brushed aluminium engine covers and hand-painted coach lining on the two-tone colour schemes. The standard T40 gets chrome and brushed-metal detailing, while the T40 Black gets blacked-out components for a more subtle look.
Features: The Bonneville T40 gets a 4-inch circular TFT console with smartphone connectivity, full-map navigation, phone and music controls, and a Heritage Mode with an analogue-style display. It gets five riding modes: Road, Rain, Eco and two customisable modes, along with cruise control, cornering ABS and cornering traction control. Other features include full LED lighting with a DRL, self-cancelling indicators, panic brake lights, backlit switchgear and a USB Type-C charging port. The T4 gets a colour LCD console with smartphone connectivity. It gets three ride modes, turn-by-turn navigation and dual-channel ABS.
Engine: The Bonneville T40 is powered by a 349cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine and has a 6-speed gearbox. It makes 29 PS at 7,000rpm and 31.2 Nm at 5,500rpm. The engine has been tuned to deliver strong low-end torque and a relaxed power delivery that should suit the T40’s classic roadster character.
Suspension, Brakes & Other Details: The Bonneville T40 gets a completely new chassis as compared to the other Triumph 400 range of bikes. It has a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. It rides on an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked-wheel setup. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends, with a twin-piston front brake calliper and they have braided brake lines. The bike has a 790 mm seat height, which can be reduced to 770 mm with an accessory low seat, and weighs 195 kg kerb.
Rivals: The Triumph Bonneville T40 will primarily rival the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda CB350 and Jawa 350. Given its pricing and performance, it should also be considered an alternative to the Harley-Davidson X440.
Variants: The Triumph Bonneville T40 is available in two variants: the base T4, and the top-end T40 and T40 Black. The standard T40 is available in three colour schemes: Aegean Blue/Fusion White, Meriden Blue/Tangerine Orange and New England White/Jet Black. The T40 Black gets a Matt Pewter Grey/Matt Phantom Black colour scheme along with blacked-out engine casings and gloss-black aluminium wheel rims. The T4 has three single tone shades: Phantom Black, Carnival Red & Competition Green.
