New Triumph Tiger Explorer India Launch Next Month

Triumph Motorcycles can be single-handedly credited to kick-starting the adventure touring motorcycle segment in the Indian two-wheeler market. It has achieved great success with its Tiger range of motorcycles and currently holds almost 80 per cent share of the market share. Now the British bike maker is all set to launch the big daddy of its adventure touring range - the new Tiger Explorer. The updated Triumph Tiger Explorer will be launched in India in July, 2017 and will be the third new offering this year after the Triumph Bonneville Bobber and the Triumph Street Triple S. The new Triumph Tiger Explorer was first unveiled at the 2015 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Visually, the new bike looks similar to its predecessor, but features major mechanical changes and an updated electronics package. While only one variant of the old Tiger Explorer (XC) was on sale in India, the new bike is offered in a staggering eight variants in the international market - XR, XRx Low, XRx, XRt, XC, XCx, XCx Low and the XCa. We aren’t sure how many variants will come to India, but we can at least expect the Explorer XC and XR to be launched here. The new triple-cylinder motor is Euro 4-compliant and delivers 139PS at 9300rpm and 123Nm of peak torque at 6200rpm, which is a hike of 2PS and 2Nm when compared to the older motor. The Triumph Explorer XCx, XCa, XRx and XRt variants now features five ride modes, semi-active suspension, switchable ABS, cornering ABS and traction control along with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). The IMU improves performance by controlling the electronic aids based on readings from the bikes movement along 6-axis based on pitch, roll, and yaw movement. The base XR and XC models have standard multi-channel switchable ABS and traction control but lacks high-end electronics. The 2016 Tiger Explorer also features Hill Hold Control, which stops the bike from rolling back when starting on a steep incline. The older Triumph Tiger retailed for Rs 18.75 lakh in the Indian market and we expect the new motorcycle to be priced at a premium given the extra electronic goodies and better cycle parts.
