Premium Compact Sedan of the Year - Volkswagen Vento
The Vento proved to be so much more than just a Polo with a boot that the jury couldn’t help but take notice of how slickly the company has transformed the sporty hatchback into an elite premium compact sedan. They say that God is in details and the Volkswagen Vento substantiates this old adage in every sense of the word. Small touches like the swooping C-pillar immaculately merging into the elegant boot or the innovative seat adjustment lever that allows one to move the co-driver’s seat forward while sitting at the back in order to maximise legroom, the Vento truly offers world-class features and feel at a very alluring price-point. Although the Vento faced no rivals in its native class for the award, it was surely a strong contender amongst top six finalists for the Car of the Year award.
The overall refinement and dynamic ability of the Vento once again throws light onto the German engineering expertise seen in all Volkswagen cars and the assurance that comes along with them. The Vento is sturdy, reliable, comfortable and spacious along with being energetic to drive around the town and over open highways. The Volkswagen Vento has the typically polished German feel about it, which may even outdo some of Volkswagen’s current generation high-end models and that does say much about evolving VW design philosophy. Aesthetically as well as engineering-wise, the Vento is extremely adept at doing its job and serving its master, whatever are the requirements.
Our jury was particularly impressed by the car’s plush ride quality and handling prowess which came to the fore during the judging process which included a nice long stretch of broken roads as well as some corner-carving. The Vento offers excellent handling and it remains well-settled over a variety of surfaces. The occupants are graced with exemplary ride quality thanks to well-sorted spring and damper rates. Throwing the car around tight corners is a lot of fun as it perfectly holds its line and comes out of corners without any drama, thanks to a well-configured setup of the monocoque, the suspension and the light yet sharp steering. All these impressive traits backed by the Volkswagen brand name along side the Vento’s solid feel and good engine options in both diesel and petrol to choose from made it a worthy vote.
