Bajaj Auto will be introducing a new version of Bajaj Platina commuter motorcycle to increase its market share

New Bajaj Platina facelift coming soon

Thanks to new models like the new Bajaj Discover 150, the Pune based automobile major Bajaj Auto, has captured close to 20 per cent of the Indian two-wheeler market. To reinstate its position in the commuter segment and to continue the positive growth, Bajaj will now be focusing on one of its oldest commuter brand --- the Bajaj Platina.

The 100cc Platina motorcycle is a popular choice among Indian commuter bike buyers. Since its introduction in 2006 the Bajaj Platina has not received a major upgrade and is now facing stiff competition from models like the Hero Splendor and Hero Passion, and Honda Dream Neo and Honda Dream CD 110.

Recently Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto was quoted saying that the company will have two significant launches in the Pulsar and Platina segment. We have already reported about the new Bajaj Pulsar 200SS and now it’s the commuter Bajaj Plaitna which will be given a thorough makeover.

The current generation Bajaj Platina comes with a 99.3cc single cylinder, air-cooled engine which is capable of producing 8.2PS of power at 7,000rpm and 8.1Nm of torque at 5,000rpm. We expect the new Bajaj Platina to sport a revamped version of the existing engine, to improve refinement and fuel efficiency.

Bajaj is paying special attention to ensure that the new Bajaj Platina looks modern and appealing than its forbearer. The facelifted 2015 Bajaj Platina is expected to be launched close on the heels of the much anticipated Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS in the next couple of months, priced similar to the existing Platina which currently retails at Rs 38,780 (ex-showroom Pune).
