    Following the launch of its BS6-compliant Z650 and Ninja 650, Kawasaki is all set to launch the Ninja 1000. According to reliable sources, the Ninja 1000 will be priced at Rs 10,79,000 (ex-showroom India). That’s an increment of Rs 50,000 over the previous Ninja 1000. For the hike, you now get a cleaner motor as well as new features. The Ninja 1000 remains mechanically unchanged.

    Cosmetically, the Ninja 1000 BS6 continues to use the same design with the twin LED headlamps and a low-set flyscreen. Eagle-eyed readers might notice the new exhaust that replaces the quad exhaust setup. New features come in the form of 4-way adjustability for the windscreen, a 4.3-inch colour-TFT instrument console that includes Bluetooth connectivity, and Kawasaki’s Rideology app.

    On the powertrain front, the 1,043cc inline-four BS6-compliant motor delivers the same 142PS and 111Nm as before. The only difference being the peak torque is now delivered at 8000rpm rather than the previous 7300rpm. Other than a new exhaust system, the powertrain now comes with a bi-directional quickshifter. It continues to get two power modes: high and low, and 3-stage IMU-based traction control. The litre-class sports tourer now gets cruise control as well.

    The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 BS6’s underpinnings remain unchanged. It continues to use fully adjustable 41mm upside-down forks and a monoshock that’s adjustable for preload and rebound damping. Braking is via dual 300mm discs with radially-mounted calipers and a 250mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. Kawasaki has added a thicker and wider pillion seat for better comfort. The Ninja 1000 BS6 now weighs 2kg less than before thanks to the new exhaust setup.

    The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 has no direct competition. When launched, it will take on the Ducati Supersport S sports tourer.
