While a lot of us have been salivating over the idea of a Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 (which the company has no plans to build yet), UK-based Cooperb Motorcycles have, in essence, jumped the gun (get it?) and built this custom “Himalayan” 650. Here’s what it’s like.
Funnily, Cooperb has called it the Interlayan 650; no prizes for guessing the base motorcycle then! The stock Interceptor 650 has received an extensive makeover for the end product to look like a middleweight Himalayan. It gets a new headlight topped by a smoked windscreen and a secondary beak as well.
The Interlayan rides on a new suspension setup, new spoked wheels and is equipped with a Himalayan’s fuel tank as well. It also gets pannier mounts and tank braces (to carry the jerry cans) just like the Himlayan does.
Cooperb Motorcycles have retained the chassis with the 648cc air-cooled and fuel-injected powerplant nestled in it. In its stock form, the motor dishes out 47PS and 52Nm but Cooperb is yet to reveal the numbers since the bike uses a two-in-one exhaust setup with an aftermarket end can.
The instrument console and seat, too, have been carried over but the latter will be changed for a unit better suited to the ADV build.
The Interlayan looks quite desirable to say the least. But let’s not forget, Royal Enfield has a more exciting Himalayan on the charts which will reportedly boast a 450cc engine. Here’s what we mean.
