Ola Electric has launched the Roadster X electric bike on Independence Day, along with two other models – Roadster and Roadster Pro. The bookings of all three bikes have commenced but the deliveries of the Roadster X are expected to start early next year. However, it’s worth noting that the bikes showcased at the launch event seemed nowhere close to being production ready.
The Ola Roadster X is priced from Rs 74,999 to Rs 99,999 (introductory, ex-showroom). That said, what's interesting, is that Ola hasn’t revealed any concrete specs of the X. Instead, they have claimed that the electric bike will accelerate from 0-40kmph in 2.8s, have a top speed of 124kmph, a peak power of 11kW, and a range of 200km. We will reserve our judgement on that till we get to thoroughly ride the production version bike on public roads. If you share the same sentiment and are looking for a new two-wheeler that you can get your hands on today, here are a few options at a similar price:
The Hero Splendor Plus is one of the most popular commuter bikes in India.
The Splendor Plus might not be the most performance oriented bike in its class, but what makes it sell are its clean, iconic looks, easy and pocket-friendly maintenance, and most importantly, its frugality – a claimed mileage of about 80kmpl. With a 9.8-litre fuel tank, that can result in a real-world range of more than 600km. That’s three times the claimed range of the Roadster X.
The TVS Raider 125 is one of the most feature-rich bikes in its segment, and is one of the quickest amongst its rivals as well.
The Raider has quite a sporty design, especially with its twin-pod LED headlight unit, and that sharp-ish underbelly cowl. The Raider boasts of some interesting features like turn-by-turn navigation, social media updates, voice assist, and more. It’s available in 5 variants and with 7 colourways, depending on the variant. Here’s our running costs comparison between the TVS Raider and the Ola Roadster X 3.5kWh.
The Bajaj Freedom 125 is the world’s first CNG bike and claims to offer a running-cost middleground between electric and petrol-powered two-wheelers.

The Freedom 125 has features like a digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, LED lights, and an extra long seat. The Freedom’s claimed CNG-only range is the same as that of the Roadster X’s claimed range - 200km.
The Suzuki Access 125 is almost a ‘sleeper’ with the kind of performance it offers for the money.
If performance is not what impresses you, Access is also one of the most comfortable scooters in India. It has a decent storage space under the seat, on the floorboard, and behind the front apron. It also comes with a fair few colour options spread across its three variants. It has features like LED lights, a digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, and a USB charging port on the front apron; all of which make it quite a value-for-money scooter.
The Ola S1 X is the scooter version of the Roadster X.
The Roadster X has similar performance figures as the Ola S1 X electric scooter. It even gets a similar 4.3-inch segmented LCD cluster. However, the S1 X might prove to be a more practical option of the two considering the increased storage space.
