The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V was updated recently and it got a bunch of new features that makes it a better rival to the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, one of the most popular sporty 160cc bikes in India. In this comparison, we figure out which one comes out on top in the features battle.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V still gets a negatively lit LCD, however, now Hero says it's 3 times brighter than before. It also now gets a drag timer that lets you log 0-60kmph and quarter mile (0-400 metres) acceleration times.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V gets a digital instrument cluster with the usual readouts apart from top-speed recorder, lap timer, and 0-60kmph timer, and smartphone connectivity. However, with a slightly larger screen, and a better lay-out, the Apache’s display is easier to read at a quick glance while riding.
The Apache’s trump card in this comparo is its riding modes – Sport, Urban, & Rain. These alter the engine’s power delivery and ABS intervention. Since the Urban and Rain mode reduce the engine power, it also leads to a marginal increase in the bikes mileage. These can be changed via a button on the left-hand-side switchgear.
With the Xtreme, you’re on full power always and the most ABS intervention, if the system senses so.
Both the bikes in contention here offer complete smartphone connectivity with phone alerts. Both the bikes also have a dedicated smartphone app that enables extra features.

On the Xtreme, it enables geo-fencing and SOS alerts. The latter is also available on the Apache, alongwith ride telemetry logging such as total number of rides, ride time, 0-60kmph acceleration time, max lean angle, and more.
Both the bikes offer turn-by-turn navigation via their smartphone app. However, the Apache also shows the distance to the next turn. While the Xtreme has a larger screen space to show bigger navigation arrows, the Apache clearly shows the distance left to the next turn, which makes it easier to navigate, despite having a marginally smaller navigation display.
Since the Xtreme is only available in one variant, you get a rear disc brake and dual-channel ABS as standard. On the Apache, you can opt for lower priced variants with a rear drum brake, and single-channel ABS.
Though, with the Xtreme, you get a wider, 130-section rear tyre, while the Apache gets a 110-section rear tyre. With the wider tyre on the Xtreme, it should feel more stable at higher speeds.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is available only in one variant priced at Rs 1,38,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It’s available in three colour options – Kevlar Brown, Neon Shooting Star, and Stealth Black.
Depending on the variant you pick, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V can be had in either Glossy Black, Lightning Blue, Matte Black, Knight Black, Metallic Blue, and Racing Red. Here’s a variant-wise price breakdown:
TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Variants |

Drum |
Rs 1,24,870 |
Drum (Black Edition) |
Rs 1,24,870 |

BT Disc |
Rs 1,31,670 |
Special Edition |

The Xtreme’s price very slightly undercuts the Apache’s top-end variant’s price. However, if you are willing to let go of some features and aesthetics, you can get the Apache’s performance with its cheaper variants.
