Royal Enfield Electric Bike Teased

Royal Enfield has dropped a teaser showing the upcoming Royal Enfield Electric Bike. The teaser also revealed the date at which the brand is planning on unveiling the bike: November 4th, 2024. Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming Royal Enfield bike.

The teaser shows a retro roadster-like bike being dropped into earth via a hot air balloon. This teaser confirms that the first Royal Enfield electric bike is going to feature a retro-roadster inspired design and won’t be the Himalayan Electric which was first showcased at EICMA 2023. The electric roadster’s design patent image and also an image of the front section was leaked earlier and it has given us a decent idea of what we can expect.

The bike features a retro-inspired design, with the round headlight and teardrop shaped extensions meant to mimic a fuel tank. What adds to the retro appeal is the usage of a girder fork, which is something that we have only seen on very old bikes. The fork doesn’t offer any additional advantages compared to a conventional telescopic fork, but looks quite good.

The bike features a single piece seat as per the design patent, and the seat is also mounted directly on the bike’s main frame. So it doesn’t have a subframe, giving it a bobber-like look similar to the Jawa Perak and the Jawa 42 Bobber.

The battery pack is mounted in the main frame and sits where the engine in a conventional petrol-powered bike does. What is interesting here is the usage of air-cooling fins all around, which should be used to cool off the battery pack. Coming to underpinnings, the bike features alloy wheels and disc brakes at both ends.

We expect the bike to be launched sometime in 2025, and Royal Enfield is collaborating with Stark Motorcycles, a Spanish EV manufacturer for this project. The brand is also setting up an additional manufacturing plant in Cheyyar, Chennai which is expected to be operational by 2025. This plant is expected to manufacture the Royal Enfield electric bike and the other electric offerings the brand will launch in the future.
