Yamaha has passed on the GST (Goods & Service Tax) benefits to consumers and this has resulted in the ex-showroom price of the Fazer marginally.
The Yamaha Fazer FI V2.0 is a semi-faired offering from India Yamaha based on the popular FZ FI Version 2.0 series. The Fazer FI Version 2.0 looks similar to the earlier Fazer, with a bulky half-fairing and twin headlamps up front. The biggest change visually is actually the fairing. It has been made sharper and the fairing extensions have also been restyled as is the compact tail section. A new all-digital instrument cluster is easier to read and visually appealing as well.
In terms of specifications, the Yamaha Fazer FI Version 2.0 is powered by a 149cc air-cooled motor tuned for better efficiency and performance. The new engine, developed with Yamaha’s Blue Core philosophy, uses lighter parts and engine components for better performance and efficiency. The powerplant churns out 13.1PS of power and 12.8Nm of maximum torque. The most important change in the engine however is the fuelling. As the name suggests, the Yamaha Fazer FI Version 2.0 gets electronic fuel injection and Yamaha claims it not only makes for linear power delivery but also makes throttle response crisper.
The fuel injected Yamaha Fazer FI Version 2.0 offers better mileage than the standard Fazer which continues to exist in Yamaha India’s product line-up. The Fazer FI V2.0 offers better technology and better mileage than the existing Fazer but is at a price point which is higher as well.
Truly a international looking model, the Yamaha Fazer has excellent proportions and a solid big-bike feel to it with styling that cannot go unnoticed. The 150cc engine is potent while the handling is brilliant for daily commutes as well as weekend rides.
The Yamaha Fazer FI V2.0 is a semi-faired bike based on the FZS-FI. This is the second generation model. The bike has the same body panels of the FZS-FI v2.0 with the addition of the half-fairing and twin headlamps. The biggest change visually is actually the fairing. The fairing now has sharper lines and gels better with the rest of the bodywork. The graphics are new. The bike gets a new fully-digital instrument cluster which is easier to read on the move.
The Fazer-FI v2.0 gets a 149cc air-cooled single-cylinder motor tuned for better efficiency and performance. The new motor makes 13.2PS at 8000rpm and 12.8Nm of torque at 6000rpm. The new motor gets electronic fuel injection for a crisper throttle response. Suspension setup has telescopic forks upfront and a monoshock damper at the rear. The setup is tuned for better handling. The tyres are a large 100 section at the front and 140 section at the rear. Braking is via a front disc/rear drum setup. Fuel tank capacity is 12 litres while kerb weight is 137kgs.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi: The Gixxer SF Fi retails at Rs 93,032, close to Rs 5,000 more than the Gixxer. For the extra money you get a rear disc brake, a full fairing, more power and better design. Power is courtesy of a 154.9cc air-cooled and fuel-injected single-cylinder powerplant. Power output is 14.8PS at 8000rpm and 14Nm at 6000rpm.
The Fazer-FI v 2.0 commands a Rs 5,000 premium over the naked bike. You do not get much for that increased price except for the half fairing and twin headlamps. If it is looks you want, go for the Fazer. If you want better performance and handling, it's the FZS-FI.
