Triumph has announced that it will be launching the new Tiger on March 21. We have confirmation that it will be the smaller 2018 Triumph Tiger 800 that will be launched first followed by the 2018 Tiger 1200 in the coming months.
We recently had the chance to test the Tiger 800 on the narrow roads of the Atlas mountains in Morocco. To read our thoughts, click here. Triumph has already started accepting bookings for the new 800cc adventure-tourer.
Triumph has claimed that the new motorcycle features over 200 changes, the majority of which have gone into making the engine more refined and responsive. Just to be clear, it still packs the same 800cc, in-line 3-cylinder motor which produces 95PS of power at 9500rpm and 79Nm of torque at 8050rpm. The changes that Triumph talks about promises to offer a better low-speed response and acceleration. It also gets a new lighter and free-flowing exhaust system that is smaller than the one on the previous generation.
The 2018 Tiger 800 has added more bulk to its design and looks meaner thanks to the new LED headlamps and refreshed paint scheme. It also gets an all-new TFT instrument panel on the higher-end variant while the base XR trim continues to sport an LCD panel.
Internationally, the bike is offered in six different variants. However, which of these will be launched in our country on March 21, 2018 is still unclear. But it is fair to expect at least one variant from the off-road XC range - either the XCx or XCa variant.
The previous generation of the Tiger 800 had a price tag that started from Rs 10.87 lakh and went all the way up to 14.37 lakh. Owing to the upgrades and the hike in CKD taxes, expect the new motorcycle to be marginally expensive.
If we were to guess, we’d say the new Tiger 800 could cost anywhere between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, which will see it compete against the recently launched BMW F750 GS and F850 GS, which are priced at Rs 12.2 lakh and 13.7 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.
