ZW-Top-Cars-2020

2020 is finally here. And before you start reading, we’d like to wish you a Happy New Year! Just like 2019, 2020 is expected to be an action-packed year in the Indian four-wheeler space. This year will also witness the Auto Expo 2020 that’s slated to happen at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida between February 7-12. We expect to see cleaner mobility in 2020 as India takes a jump from BS4 to more stringent BS6 emission norms. Speaking of which, a handful of EVs are also expected to make it to this year. So without further ado, here are the top 10 cars under Rs 25 lakh we can’t wait to get our hands on in 2020.

2020 Hyundai Creta:

The 2020 Hyundai Creta is all set to get a generation update and will be based on the successful Kia Seltos’ platform. It’ll feature more rounded looks and will come with a thoroughly revamped interior. Further, expect the Creta to pamper you with features like a panoramic sunroof, connected car technology, Tesla-style central console as well as digital dials. Hyundai will take the wraps off the next-gen Creta at Auto Expo ahead of its launch in mid-2020.

Tata Altroz:

Tata Motors’ first launch for 2020 will be the Altroz premium hatchback. It’ll be Tata’s answer to the popular Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. We have already driven the Altroz and came away pretty impressed. The only missing piece in the Altroz’ puzzle is the price tag, which is set to be revealed on January 22. Further, Tata Motors is working on the Altroz EV and a close-to-production version is expected at Auto Expo 2020.

The Seltos has set the sales chart on fire and Kia hopes to repeat that with the QYI sub-4 metre SUV. The QYI is likely to be based on the Hyundai Venue’s platform and could borrow its powertrains as well. The SUV has been spotted testing in India and is expected to debut later in the year. When launched, expect it to be priced at a slight premium over the Venue which starts from Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

2020 Hyundai i20:

ZW-2020-Hyundai-i20

The popular Hyundai i20 is set to get a generation update in mid-2020. Just like a typical generation update, the 2020 i20 comes with revamped styling and added features. We also expect it to get a big floating touchscreen system like the Kia Seltos. Expected powertrain options include an 83PS 1.2-litre Kappa petrol, 125PS 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol (from Venue) and a detuned version of the Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI diesel engine. Expect to see the i20 in India by mid-2020.

Hyundai Aura:

The Grand i10 Nios-based sedan is slated to hit our roads on January 21 and prices will be revealed during launch. The Hyundai Aura looks similar to the Nios when viewed head-on and is expected to come with a similar dashboard too. But what’s different is the new 100PS 1.0-litre T-GDI engine that’s borrowed from the Venue sub-4 metre SUV. Further, it could be the first model in its class to come with a BS6-compliant diesel engine.

Maruti Suzuki XL5:

The Maruti Suzuki XL5 is basically a dressed-up Wagon R that’ll be retailed through Nexa showrooms. The XL5 has been spotted testing on our roads plenty of times. Expected changes include new LED tail lamps, blacked-out alloy wheels, a new interior colour scheme, and premium upholstery. The XL5 is expected to come with a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine with both manual and AMT options. The XL5 is expected to debut at Auto Expo 2020.

MG ZS EV:

The clean and green ZS EV is Morris Garages’ second car for India. We have already driven the electric SUV and you can read about it here. Positives include its well-finished cabin, i-SMART 2.0 EV connected car technology and a lengthy feature list. It also offers peppy performance and is faster than the Hyundai Kona Electric in the 0-100kmph run. Prices are expected to range between Rs 23 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Nexon EV:

The Tata Nexon made an extremely strong first impression when it was revealed in December last year. It gets sharper styling and the interior ambiance is top-notch too. The new Ziptron powertrain develops 129PS of power and 254Nm of torque from a 30.2kWh battery pack. Tata also claims the Nexon EV can do more than 300km on a single charge! All of this is expected to be offered from Rs 15 lakh, significantly undercutting the Kona Electric and ZS EV.

MG Hector 6-seater:

The MG Hector will soon get a more luxurious 6-seater variant with individual captain seats for middle row occupants and a third-row bench. Further, the 6-seater version will come with a tweaked exterior design and could get a new name to differentiate it from the 5-seater model. Powertrain options could be identical to the current Hector, albeit with upgrades to meet BS6 emission norms. Expect MG to take the wraps off 6-seater Hector at Auto Expo 2020.

Renault HBC Sub-4 metre SUV:

The HBC will be Renault’s answer to Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza and Hyundai’s Venue. It’ll be based on the popular CMF-A platform and is expected to borrow the Triber’s 1.0-litre engine. Further, Renault could plonk in a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine for more oomph. Other details about the HBC are scarce at present. Expect Renault to show a close-to-production version at the Auto Expo ahead of its launch in mid-2020.

Skoda Octavia 2020:

ZW-Skoda-Octavia-2020

The recently unveiled Skoda Octavia will be launched in India by end-2020. It’s expected to come with a 1.5-litre TSI engine that develops 150PS and 250Nm of twist. Nope, the next-gen Octavia won’t come with a diesel powertrain as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India will be taking the petrol-only route in the BS6 era. The 2020 Octavia looks properly modern with its new exterior and interior design. Have a closer look at it right here
