Tata’s small EV takes on the big crash test! Are the 5 stars good enough? Let’s break it down.

2026 Tata Punch EV BNCAP 5 Star Crash Test

Tata is back with another strike of a 5-star crash-tested car. The Punch EV has been tested by Bharat NCAP and has passed the crash test with flying colours. So, is the Punch EV safe enough for your family?

Let’s answer that question as we break down the crash test report by Bharat NCAP:

Adult Occupant Protection

Score: 31.09 / 32 points

The Tata Punch EV has scored an overall 31.09 out of a maximum 32 points for adult occupant protection (AOP). Breaking it down, the Punch EV has scored 15.28 out of 16 points on the frontal offset deformable barrier set. Note that this test takes place at a speed of 50 kmph.

And for the side movable deformable barrier test, the score is 15.80 out of 16.

This indicates that the Punch EV has scored marginally better in comparison on the side movable barrier test, simulating the safety during a side body impact on the car.

Child Occupant Protection

Score: 45 / 49 points

BNCAP uses dummies simulating an 18-month-old child and a 3-year-old child in the back seat of the car for this test. The Punch EV in this scenario has scored an overall 45 out of a maximum possible 49 points.

Breaking the test down, the Punch EV has scored a dynamic score of 24 out of 24, a child-restraint system (CRS) score of 12 out of 12 and on the vehicle assessment score, the points awarded are 9 out of 13 possible points. This indicates that the Punch EV scores well and is sturdily built for child occupant protection in the scenario of a crash.

2026 Tata Punch EV: Safety Features

The Punch EV includes an extensive safety package, including 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist (HSA), and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

It also gets ISOFIX child seat mounts, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, rear wiper with washer and hill-descent control (HDC).

2026 Tata Punch EV: Price And Rivals

The Tata Punch EV is priced at Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. The Punch EV does not have direct rivals as such. However, the closest comparisons could be the Citroen eC3, MG Comet EV and the SUVs in the higher segment like the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and the MG Windsor EV.

ZigSays…

The Punch EV is popular for being a first car for many. This includes first-time car buyers and young families with children. For such people, safety will be one of the paramount concerns in a car they are investing in. This also proves that buying a small EV need not be a compromise in safety today.
