I am quite certain most of our Bollywood fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone’s latest starrer Lafangey Parindey, which will be hitting the silver screens later this month. For most of you, who have already watched the exhilarating trailers on television, the movie ought to have made an impression, especially for those acquainted with riding fast bikes and performing dangerous stunts on their power packed two wheelies!
Though the concept of sports bikes being showcased in Bollywood action movies is something we have quite grown fond of, our knowledge about these two wheeled wonders stretches a little beyond the overused and abused Suzuki Hayabusa and the Yamaha R1.
With blockbuster movies like Dhoom (I & II) paving the way to a bike centric movie revolution in Bollywood, there has been no looking back ever since. One of the first Bollywood movies ever having Superbikes of international repute as an integral part of its action script, this movie had everything an Indian bike lover could ask for. Who can forget scenes from Dhoom with John Abraham blazing down the highway on his Hayabusa (GSX 1300r).
Apart from the word-famous Busa, quite a few of Suzuki’s younger siblings were also seen in the two films. The Suzuki Bandit 1200 S was showcased in both parts and was mainly ridden by actor Uday Chopra in action scenes for both Dhoom and D:2 Back in Action also known as Dhoom II . Another sleek Suzuki bike, the GSR 600 was seen handled by Abhishek Bacchchan in Dhoom 2, in an electrifying scene with him in hot pursuit of Hrithik Roshan, who in the movie is trying to make a quick getaway on his stunning Suzuki GSX-R 1000.
Another recent movie Blue, starring Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan has features some hot bike races, with Zayed Khan more than happy to play his part as a street racer in the film. The nail-bitting race in the film saw bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa, the Kawasaki Ninja 10R and the Yamaha R1 giving Zayed’s Ducati 999 fierce competition, but playing the protagonist in the scene, you needn’t bother guessing who finally won the race.
Bollywood movies are now embracing the spice that these super fast bikes are bringing to their scripts and now seem fairly open to the idea of weaving their action scenes around these mean machines. With the trend setting in at full rpm its time to wait and see what Pradeep Sarkar’s Lafangey Paridey has in store for passionate bike lovers in the country. Look out all you Pulsar fans!
