Aprilia SR 150 Production Started

Piaggio India had showcased the sporty SR 150 at the 2016 Auto Expo, and it will soon be launched in the country on August 22. With the launch date coming closer, parent company Piaggio has kick-started the production of the SR 150, with the first vehicle rolling out of its Baramati plant. Aprilia calls the SR 150 a ‘crossover bike’ as it gives the feel of the motorcycle but, at the same time, provides the convenience of a scooter as well. The SR 150 is the first product by Aprilia to be made in India.

The SR 150 is an attractive scooter that draws it aerodynamic and sporty styling from the RSV 4 1000 RF Factory motorcycle. Targeted at young riders, the SR 150 features an aggressive front end with chunky telescopic forks. It comes with a twin-pod headlamp unit tucked inside the fairing. The turn indicators are integrated with the sporty handlebar while the twin-pod instrument cluster displays the speed and fuel present in the tank. The SR 150 comes with 14-inch wheels with grippy tyres.

Commenting on the roll out of the Aprilia SR 150, Stefano Pelle, Managing Director and CEO, Piaggio Vehicles India, said: “With the roll out of the Aprilia SR 150, it is indeed a proud moment for us here at the Piaggio group. The first India made Aprilia only reiterates our India commitment. The SR 150 is a one of its kind from the Aprilia stable, especially since this bike is customized for the Indian market and produced locally. The crossover segment in India is in its nascent stage and we are yet to see its full potential; with the Aprilia SR 150 we aim to capitalize on this opportunity. Aprilia worldwide is known for its racing heritage and we have packed some of the superbikes abilities like performance and handling in this compact SR 150.”

Powering the SR 150 is the 150cc engine that has been borrowed from the Vespa 150 which is currently sold in India. The motor is capable of producing 11.5PS of power and 11.5Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a CVT gearbox.

Once launched, the Aprilia SR 150 will retail at Piaggio’s dealership network in the country and also at Motoplex showrooms across Pune, Chennai, Kochi and Hyderabad.
